@DrMatthewSweet unironically i remain mildly peeved that, post-covid, laptops are now allowed in the main reading room. some people are v noisy typers, and there’s something oddly distracting about the hearing cadence of other people’s thoughts punched out on a laptop.

one of my crank theories is that UK infrastructure projects are slow and expensive when they have a broadly linear geometry, because this maximises the number of potential veto actors whose patch they cut across for a project of given size
