@tonofbuns @deveresocietyuk Possibilities: 1) Cheeky 17 yo de Vere did it w/o Golding's knowledge; 2) Cecil did it; 3) Golding agreed to the ruse for monetary other reasons; or 4) Puritan or not, Golding thought the work was good enough that it should be published for the general edification of mankind.

On 20 Oct 1571, Arthur Golding, de Vere's half uncle, dedicated to him "The Psalms of David and others". In it he wrote that David "exhorteth you..too lay it up in your hart, too set more store by it than by riches, to be mindeful of it, to make it your counsayler". #Shakespeare

@fe____r That book seriously can feel like it is trying to get off the page in fits and starts. The way the language starts to condense and abstract freaks me out sometimes. I love it. I love overhearing those private detectives. They also sort of scare me. One of them.
