@Softykjr They lost when Randy Johnson struck out 19 in 1997. History doesn’t repeat itself but it does rhyme.

FINAL: Mariners 2, Royals 3 RECORD: 16-18 Emerson Hancock K’d a career-high 14, but a brutal baserunning blunder from Randy Arozarena, an uncharacteristic error from Julio Rodríguez and a blown save from Andrés Muñoz loomed large.

We went from “the humanities are utterly pointless” to “suddenly, no one can read” in the span of about a year.

With Randy Johnson's 51 retirement, I went down a rabbit hole tracing the trickle-down value of the best trade in Mariners history. Results were stunning: 32 years of value from a 1981 draft pick, totaling 132.8 bWAR, 265 homers, three aces and one Hall of Fame lefty. Story:

The earth is just spinning through infinite darkness at 67,000 miles per hour and somehow it also made blueberries?? And laughing?? And the feeling of sun on your face?? What is this place. What a an absolute gift.

Julio Rodríguez: first @Mariners player with 3️⃣+ doubles out of the 3️⃣ spot since Ken Griffey Jr. on July 1, 1998 vs. Colorado. Both Julio & Griffey Jr. played center field & doubled in each of their last 3 AB’s. Rockies pitcher who finished the game? Jerry Dipoto! #TheMayerGWS

Wild story: A man in Kentucky laughed so hard at a botched Younghoe Koo FG last season that it triggered a seizure, sending him to the hospital, where doctors discovered a tennis-ball-sized brain tumor. The tumor was removed and was deemed not cancerous. The man believes that missed kick saved his life. Full story here: apnews.com/article/kentuc…

And it's now 7-0 in the 4th inning, as Luis Castillo just got tagged for a second-deck, two-run homer from Byron Buxton. A slider that had little movement, over the heart of the plate and in an 0-1 count.
