@The_East_End (James Bolam as a Woodwork teacher in 'The Beiderbecke Affair'):
"Due to educational cutbacks, we shall only be making one book-end this term..."
Publicity shot of Robert Vaughn as The Man from U.N.C.L.E. prepares to move into colour for its second season, although most US households were still watching in black-and-white. Personally, I prefer the first season, with its more subtle balance between drama & lighter touches.
@LondonPubMap A real favourite, very friendly. There with a pal a few years ago and we were singled out to test pizza recipes. We agreed on one... and that's what the Chandos supplies to this day. Good beer, too.
The Chandos
📍56 Brockley Rise, London SE23 1LN
This pub was built 1896 and was a former Charrington’s house.
I was massively impressed by The Chandos, what a cracking boozer. There is lots of pub heritage, a welcoming local pub feel, a good beer selection. #pub
@DavidLloydRADIO They've become regional stations with a local weekday morning opt-out. And the 'regional' content is very often content which doesn't particularly relate to that region.
New research indicates a third of BBC local radio weekly listeners aged 45+ believe ‘the BBC has ruined its local radio stations’. Almost half of weekly listeners aged 45+ (47%) say they are not as distinctive as they were.

@TheCinesthetic Gorgeous, as are almost all of them but (and I write as a designer who worked with Maurice Binder) we always described "credits" as being at the end of the film: "titles" go at the front. You don't credit someone for something you haven't experienced yet.
@Clinnick1@LumoTravel I thought Super Voyager’s class 221 would have been a better choice with tilt enabled they could have mixed it with the Pendolinos on the ECML
@Captain_Deltic@clark_aviation Worse, there's an uncomfortable trend currently of GB rail companies naming their fleets with hybrid pseudo-Italian or Japanese names rather than anything recognisably English. Trains that ends with a vowel should be forbidden.
Anyone choosing a name for a new aircraft design has a large variety of words to choose from.
The team at Percival chose 'Merganser' for this early post-war executive transport. For those who don't know, a Merganser is a type of duck, pretty much like the number of these sold!
Game, Set and Match (1988). Granada TV's miniseries of the Len Deighton spy trilogy. Ian Holm plays Bernard Samson, the British spy looking for the mole in the East German network.
13 episodes, a huge budget and critical acclaim but it wasn't a ratings winner. Maybe it was the timing, the Cold War held less interest for a 1988 audience. Or maybe the sheer length of the series made it hard for viewers to keep up.
I don't think it's been released on DVD or even video, but it's certainly a testament to Granada TV's ambitions for serious television drama.

@BestOfUKComedy The North begins at Scotch Corner. Manchester? It’s a suburb of Birmingham really. And while we’re here, the Midlands begin at Newbury. Thank you.

After six years of closure, this historic City boozer has reopened. It’s absolutely mobbed in here — I’ll return at a quieter time to have a proper gander.

On today’s crawl, I’m over in Canonbury early doors, then off to Stoke Newington and Hackney, before heading to meet up with family over from Ireland for a few pints at my favourite pub in London.
Have a great Saturday, and support a pub if you can. 🍻
