💰 It was another great day in our thinking math classroom! Would you rather have $1 million or a penny today then doubled every day for a month? Ss learned the power of exponents! 💰@BuchananPirates @bransonschools

@happiestteacher @sage_stage 99% of the time, the students with this attitude are not going to be able to come up with meaningful alternatives bc their whole goal is to get out of work.

@sage_stage What are they learning and why is the assignment the best way to demonstrate that growth in these learners? Why not co-create a list of other ways that they can show they know the learning?

For the first time this year I'm starting to have students say flat out "I'm just not going to do this assignment" And I kinda want to be like, that's cool, I get paid either way. I've never given up this quickly or easily, but when they say they won't do it, I believe them.

@Mathowitz I mean you no disrespect but $100,00 or more for K-12 teaching is more than a reasonable salary. Where I live, the mean K-12 teaching salary is $52,000.

@bogieman1445 @clmsntgrteacher @CopblockApp @JayWamsted So many things wrong w this statement! A classroom is not a factory w students as products. If a teacher is given curriculum (not all are), it’s a guide that must be adjusted to fit the students in the room. Please go spend some time subbing and come back to this conversation.

A veteran teacher new to our building asked me, "So will they give us paper or do I just need to go buy my own?" & can you imagine any other profession where this question even makes sense? But every teacher past Year 2 knows exactly what it's like.

@SandyGramley @Beetqueen2 @JayWamsted Sounds to me like someone who sees schools as factories, made up of machines instead of flesh and blood human teachers, students, and admin. How do you define a “true professional”?

@uth3nt1k @VitosMom1 @p_sarah_slp @chieftalkbull @WillieETCarver okay but there is many that don't and personally that is how it should be in my opinion. But i'm not gonna sit here and knock ppl down if that isn't how they feel. I just think school should be about teaching is all i'm saying

@murphysmurfy21 @alixandra27 Also, the schools system should not be tied to the adult workforce. We need better systems that don’t assume schools will serve as childcare all the time.

@alixandra27 (1) Employers would never allow employees one week off every 6 weeks because schools are shut down. (2) Teachers have a winter break, spring break and fall break in addition to the entire summer off. Why do you need more breaks?

@murphysmurfy21 @alixandra27 I don’t think she is saying students and teachers should have more time off. Rather, instead of a long break in the summer, spread it out more evenly. It would be the same amount of time in the classroom, just with more opportunities for mental breaks.
