Should Americans **necessarily** be concerned? Though your post only contains one typed-out “if”, in reality there are like 5-6 of them in there. If, say, the Congressman is traveling on a diplomatic passport, is abiding all laws and regulations, is not deviating from agreed-upon itineraries, has properly identified himself, and if the detention is approved and assisted by military troops… sure! Very concerning! State department level concerning! Pretty easy, though, to come up with a scenario where Americans should be concerned solely by the actions and exaggerated claims of the Congressman.

If in a foreign country, armed men, apparently civilians, hold a U.S. Member of Congress, Americans should be concerned. More so when the military goes along with it.
