@trappalachian2 You probably have better knowledge on this than me, and I just now saw they were playing with Tyler Childers so you’re definitely right lol

Buddy those are not alt country. MJ Lenderman and Pinegrove MAYBE, but still mostly just indie rock with a little twang in the vocals. And calling Wednesday and Alex G “alt country” is preposterous lmfao

@trappalachian2 I was in grad school we did a project in Camp Washington and we did a walking tour and doorknocking for a kind of half assed ethnographic neighborhood thing and at that time (early 2010s) Camp Washington was the last major remnant of the Appalachian migrants. So interesting!

Kinda interesting how this DNR map lines up culturally too, all the river neighborhoods and the whole westside is the bluegrass region of ohio and the east side is illinoian till plain aka midwest

@lst156 @realBSaints It’s hard to really know bc it’s a lot less documented than down here bc there’s less of them, but im sure they stick out like a sore thumb up there. All i really know is when it comes to white ppl akron and cle got a lotta WV whereas cincy is basically EKY 2

@trappalachian2 @realBSaints IMO, Cleveland’s white Appalachian community tends to have worse outcomes than Cincinnati’s because they have tended to be much more racist than those in Cincinnati…Northeast Ohio’s rich whites never accepted them, and they never tried to build bridges with anyone else

@lst156 @trappalachian2 They got stuck directly in the racial "conflict zone" from the late 1970s- early 90s by court-mandated school "desegregation" + the ascending black power structure in Cleveland then, who wanted them gone. Any attempt by them to hold their ground was seen as "racist". So no.

@trappalachian2 The last thing they’d ever do is tell you how closely your stories are tied together. Then you might see yourself in your brother’s eyes and if you do that you might stand up with him and demand better.
