#protectHighPark #biodiversity Five years ago, Passover Full Moon would be only light spilling over Grenadier Pond in High Park. Those, calling now Provincially Significant Wetland home, could live less disturbed lives. So could we, people. Keep city out of TO's remaining nature!

John Meyer argues that the real economy doesn’t need growth, only the money economy does. “In fact in Canada, growth has been counter-progressive for decades in terms of personal well-being, equality levels, job quality, quality of life and fiscal and environmental balance.” sustainablesociety.com/the-real-econo…

@PopulationIC @Graff2023 @DominionReview Is Canada's immigration system set to operate to benefit Canadians and Canada resource security or to save the financial system? Some views (AI) on Century Initiative 100. Starts with the right bottom segment.

Nothing wrong with being an international student, but some institutions in Canada were operating as "diploma mills" and study visas were being used as a short-cut to try for permanent residency. It seems to us that Canada's immigration system was not operating to benefit Canadians but to implement the Century Initiative's objective of 100 million Canadians by 2100.

Riley Donovan of @DominionReview has a proposal to restore some sanity to Canada’s immigration system: the “tap on, tap off” system that we employed in decades past. And when the tap is on, it doesn’t have to be full blast. Also, being an international student or asylum seeker shouldn’t be seen as a shortcut to permanent residency. frontiercentre.org/2026/05/17/its…

When the great crash comes... I don't think the majority will relate it to those who believed in an endlessly expanding economy. I believe the corporates & their political puppets, will say it's because we didn't have enough "growth", we didn't get big enough, fast enough, media will pick that up (as they do) & the public will swallow it (as they do). So if we do get a second chance, I don't believe we'll have learnt a thing.

@fperkins @Graff2023 Why would you like this? It should not be either BB expansion or planning for the monster over development where already too dense. Our vision for Toronto has changed for much worse since the 90th when people still understood ecological limits and sustainability.

#OokweminMinising Density: Roughly 1,900 residents and jobs per ha, planned to support 21,000 residents and 2,900 jobs on just 10.9 hectares. This density is comparable to parts of Manhattan or Hong Kong. Your vision @CanadaGray @MarkJCarney? #nojets #noCenturyInitiative100

This is the new city threatened by the proposed massive expansion and jetification of Toronto Island Airport. Ask your federal MP and @MarkJCarney to not reverse the ban on jets. #cdnpoli #TOpoli #SaveourWaterfront

I went for a drive in this area on a Sunday. There is already traffic congestion here because the roads lack enough lanes and there are too many lights, pedestrians, cyclists, even without buildings that will add something like 10,000 people who will need to use the roads, get deliveries, etc. Our planners hate roads and cars, and assume we can get away with roads that will clearly not have adequate capacity in the long run.

Toronto City Council has approved updated Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments alongside a revised Precinct Plan for Ookwemin Minising in the Port Lands. The revised framework would introduce 12,370 homes, heights up to 46 storeys, expanded affordable housing, and a waterfront community tied to the planned Waterfront East LRT. @Graff2023 12,370 homes, a fancy word for units, would add roughly 30,000 more residents into already extremely dense congested portion of a central city with not nearly enough green spaces, the off leash areas etc. to absorb this town. Imagine pressures on TI & bird migration flying path.

@NoJetsTO Toronto currently has over 850,000 proposed residential units in its development pipeline across 2,335 projects, making it the largest recorded to date. If fully completed, these proposed homes could accommodate over a million additional residents. toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2…

@treebeing If you don’t build some market housing, then the affordable housing won’t pencil.

In this week’s Frankly, I offer the third episode in my series on staying human, this time focused on presence. I share a personal reflection on presence, and its importance in a reality where we are constantly living in anticipation of the future. Watch/listen: thegreatsimplification.com/frankly-origin…

@NoJetsTO OK, so let's build 3000 units meeting this criteria, not 30,000 units and super tall towers. The most heavily impacted areas are expected to be the Port Lands and Ookwemin Minising (formerly Villiers Island), where over 20,000 residents were projected to live.

@treebeing The City of Toronto officially defines affordable housing based on a strict income-targeted framework rather than just market averages. Total monthly shelter costs (inclusive of heat, hydro, hot water, and water) must consume no more than 30% of a household's gross monthly income
