@eigenrobot @justalexoki i suspect that people who are civil and courteous about disagreements (genuine “diversity” of thought, not pretend “diversity” of orthodox & dogmatic secular theology), also have greater intellectual integrity & are better skilled at surveying evidence & constructing a thesis.

anytime i’m using an application and i am interrupted by a pop-up window asking me to rate the app – i give a one-star, because i didn’t want to be disturbed. and this is the easiest way for me to not be bothered again by that pop-up on the app.

@TiltingatM3 Burgess, The Tradition of the Trojan War in Homer and the Epic Cycle (2001) is prob most accessible. West's Greek Epic Fragments (2003) has the fragments & introduction, and his commentary The Epic Cycle (2013). Griffin's article The Epic Cycle and the Uniqueness of Homer (1977).

I’ve seen it speculated that the Iliad and Odyssey were just two poems out of a larger seven (?) poem Trojan War Cycle, the rest of which has been lost except various quoted fragments. Is there one central place I can go read about what we know about the rest?

@treowmian i think so there's also just a certain amount of social traction i think I need --not validation exactly, just the sense of meeting another mind and holding a thing in common understanding or appreciation ai just doesn't deliver this, for whatever reason

btw i think this is a general “autistic” thing and i’d like to have a word for it - treating words as logical categories with logical conditions rather than as emotionally, socially, politically laden categories for directing communal behavior

people are not treating "intelligent" as a logical category that some things belong to by virtue of having certain properties, but as a proxy for personhood; they are not saying AI cannot perform a certain kind of work but that it cannot occupy a certain political role
