@jmdagdelen RE4 Japan did the best job of marketing the feeling of playing it in VR. Watching a flatscreen video doesn’t do a game justice - the ad should show how it FEELS

Did you know these VR games came out? Do you know what makes them awesome and worth playing?
Marketing teams across the board are not doing their jobs. They are phoning it in.
If you spend 90% of time and money on making a game and 10% of the on marketing, it will fail.

A lot of 'VR has no games' on here today. Ironically this is VR's biggest month in years: Wrath, EXD, Forefront, Into the Radius 2, Little Nightmares, One More Delve, Beyond Sandbox, FlatOut 4, TMNT and more. There's a perception/pacing issue at the heart of this.

@DigiBunka the gear is$300, that's cheaper than most consoles nowadays, no PC needed and setup is way quicker than when you first seen it.
if you can spin 360 degrees with your arms in front of you, you have space, you can even play seated.

Vr has too many issues to solve for it to become mainstream
How the skill floor and skill ceiling can't be hidden because your body is the controller
How the gear is expensive AF and too awkward for the average person to set up
How not everyone has access to a good playspace

Having opinion on games you haven't played is stupid, let alone having opinion on a whole damn niche of gaming when you only played one or two games in that niche.

@Tetoberry also literal flatscreen games like Oblivion Remastered, Hogwarts Legacy and Zelda BOTW have VR Mods nowadays, none of those are mini games.

@Tetoberry I wouldn't call a Batman game that plays like an Arkham Game like Batman Arkham Shadow in VR and a game that's if Shadow of the Colossus and Dark Souls had a baby in VR like Behemoth mini games.

VR just kinda boiled down to doing minigames with a TV strapped to your head. Even stuff line Boneworks and Alyx that tried to push it forwards just ended up being limited by what you can physically do irl with a box on your head. VR just ended up being a gimmick, not the future

@BenjiGameDev I guess it's safe to say VR in the early days is completely different from today. We now have Half Life Alyx and Batman Arkham Shadow for crying out loud.
If you want to see innovation, I think those games are good examples. Also Asgard's Wrath 1 (maybe 2) & Skydance's Behemoth.

I can only speak from my own experience making VR games in the early days (DK2) - it's just a really difficult medium to design for. It didn't unlock any crazy new gameplay innovations like we thought it might, so it has very few positives to offset the many downsides

The only games that work in VR are seated games in cockpits...but then they get boring as there's just not that much you can do. Racing games and Flight Sims are awesome sure, but they are niches. Joe Public, the man with call of duty and fifa on his shelf will never play VR for more than half an hour.

Realistically VR was never going to go anywhere. It was prohibitively expensive, inconvenient and uncomfortable to play, caused major motion sickness, and made you look really stupid.
All of that was not worth it for the 1 (one) non-gimmick VR game
