This tweet will be a longish one regarding how upscaling Dokkan’s artworks roughly works, so feel free to read only if interested, if not have a great rest of your day! A lot of the comments here are cracking me up, so I feel like it’s time for me to address the upscaling topic, Dokkan’s specifically. If you have been around the community for a bit, or have ever seen some upscaled artworks posted on the TL (regardless of who does it), well, that upscale is done through AI, unless completely redrawn from scratch, but is obviously very time consuming and I’ve only seen a few done throughout the years. AI in upscaling tools has been a thing for almost a decade, every upscaling method uses a model and way to run that model. It is very wrong tho to believe that to upscale an artwork, from either Dokkan or Legends specifically, you just throw the image into an AI and give it an input like “increase the quality in the face”, because that’s not how any of the upscales you’ve seen online get made. Each game uses multiple assets to compose the full artwork, and in Dokkan’s case, the quality is horrendous, very pixelated, full of artifacts and a noise you sometimes can’t even decipher. The worst part is, you can somewhat get away with the main character in the artwork in terms of quality and details, as that’s the one that has the highest quality assets, but when it comes to background or effects assets, those are always the worst to upscale, and more easily get that “oily” look which looks artificial. It’s because, when a character appears in the effect asset and not in any other asset used to upscale, their quality will be almost impossible to recover from the beginning. I’ve been posting upscales of every unit for years, and I’ve seen great amounts of comments regarding some loss of details in the characters behind. That’s just out of our control as we don’t have higher quality assets to work with. I had two options with this 4000 Days Goku: - wait to post it until maybe they start releasing better full pictures to work with (not in game assets as we already have those), but since he drops in 6 months that didn’t seem the best option lol - post it aware that the quality wasn’t as one would like it to be (out of my control since I use the same technique on every artwork and I don’t see “AI slop” comments over there 😅) and eventually I could repost it when better images to work with drop, like I’ve already done in the past That said, I doubt this is ever gonna change unless Dokkan decides to start using higher quality assets (impossible since they’re always trying to cut some extra space) or stronger AI models come out (I doubt any AI would ever save most of these lol). So I’m gonna keep posting these as the “AI” comments always get more hilarious, but now you know why the characters in the back most of the times have worse quality. Oh and here’s the raw asset straight out of Dokkan, for those who wanna try and do wonders with their super powerful Google Gemini lol

Crazy that if cod finals was 2 BO5s like it should be this would’ve been the clip that ended the major
