@sarahookr Incentivize it? Eg. would help for authors to be required to review input from each reviewer of their submission so over time help identify good reviewers - thus, a review from a reviewer with an aggregate 4.5/5 rating shall warrant a reply vs for one from a reviewer with a 3.

As an area chair you realize how many authors don’t even bother replying to reviewers during rebuttal. Authors even if you don’t like what reviewers say — this is incredibly selfish since often it takes 3-5 colleagues collective time to review your work. Don’t do this.

In the most effective organizations, working from home lets people be more productive. In the least effective, it's a synonym for not working. So the shift away from the office will magnify the spread between the most and least effective organizations.

@venkatatweets never considered Home And away. Cycle is for 3-4 years. India tour of Eng may not yet be factored since series not over Losing to lower ranked teams get penalised more and hence India might have been affected. Either way algo needs to be revisited.

Australia are apparently the No 1 ranked side in Test cricket. Number of away series played by Australia since 2019 Ashes: 0. ICC rankings continue to be a joke.

@sh_reya Letting SWEs to pursue a formal PhD alongside their job in their uni lab could be a great incentive? SWE would automate their work to move as much residual time/effort as possible to PhD pursuit. Arguably, would take longer than average PhD to end (w/o SWE duties) but well worth.

Almost all CS academic labs need full-time SWEs to build/maintain infra (e.g. clusters, persistent storage). But they're hard to hire for many reasons -- lower salary, no "ladder" to climb, etc. Can't believe I'm genuinely asking, but why isn't there a startup solving this?

@dirk_hovy Seems like growing pains indeed - reminds me of open source PRs that take a lot of work and multiple rounds of reviews before being merged into main line - maybe one process change could be to let reviewers pick up from a ‘backlog’ vs being assigned; latter could be a bottleneck?
