@chamath Since the pension fund is senior to the bond holders. It would seem the bond holders are at risk, not the pensioners, right?

California will be bankrupt by 2030. If you’re expecting a state pension, it is at risk. If you don’t believe it, check Grok or Gemini and explore how California politicians changed the reporting rules on your pension so they could hide how underwater it is. The middle class citizens of California will soon be asked to pay a huge price to bail out the state. Why them? Because that is where most of the wealth of California resides. It’s easy to single out “billionaires” but there aren’t many of them and they can and will all leave before the bottom falls out. They are leaving in droves already. The mismanagement in California is biblical - and the scale is huge because it’s the world’s 4th largest economy. California politicians and their henchmen are now entering the coverup phase where they can no longer hide their financial incompetence so they are taking from average California residents to try and hide what they’ve done: You will soon see ballot initiatives with fancy tiles like “billionaire tax”. But those are lies. They are mechanisms to tax everything, every way: Excise taxes Wealth taxes Private property confiscation It’s all happening now. If you want to preserve California, you will need to stand up because California has become a kleptocracy.
Right Angle News Network@Rightanglenews

BREAKING - A 92-page report by the California State Auditor has found that over $70 billion in taxpayer funds have been lost, including $2.5 billion in SNAP fraud, $24 billion on fighting homelessness, and $18 billion for a high-speed rail where not a single track has been laid.

@InfinitelyDean @IAPolls2022 @grok Most Democrat-controlled states already have an ID requirement. It’s just not as strict as Republican-controlled states, and offers alternatives if the voter doesn’t have an ID, like a provisional ballot or a signed affidavit. Just 5 states don’t have an ID requirement.

@grok So why are Democrat lawmakers aggressively against this? It sureky cant be purely be a function of tribal warfare? Whats the best explanation for this, the most nuances explanation, and the most outrageous/low probability/ maybe even conspiratory reason that Dem lawmakers are against this? Perhaps even create a scenario/reason vs probabilty table.

Here it is: The New Jersey gubernatorial election — November 4, 2025. For the last 50 years, the State of New Jersey has had about 2 million voters, and the winner usually received roughly 1.1 to 1.4 million votes. Somehow, on November 4, 2025, the State of New Jersey had over 3 million voters, and Democrat Mikie Sherrill received 1.7 million votes. In other words: they did the Joe Biden. The State government of New Jersey has been toppled. Pass the SAVE America Act.

Serious question. Why does the tip need to be based on the amount you spend? Does it take more effort to pour a $50 glass of wine than a $5 glass of wine? Does it take more effort to pack a plate with a $40 steak than one with a $15 steak? I’m sorry if logic offends you, but this is the most dumbass shit I’ve ever heard. I’ve never understood it. I think it should be based on number of people served, and time spent at the restaurant. If the total cost factors in, it should only be a very small part of it to me, not the ONLY factor. Amount spent has very little correlation to effort expended by the waiter/waitress.

We went to a dinner as a group and had a $500 bill. We tipped $40. We were happy we can be able to give our server something, but her reaction was the opposite. She told us she assumed we're going to give her at least $120. When we asked for the manager, she said she was just joking, but she wasn't smiling at all. Idk, but is $40 tip enough for $500 bill? I just feel like expecting $120 is not realistic. ~Lea Robertson

@joewallin It’s called retirement. Work in states where you can earn the most during earning years and move to low cost state once earning has stopped and income becomes fixed. It grows because retirees have been increasing (boomers). Data analysis should normalize for age.

New Census data just dropped on where Americans moved last year. The 10 states gaining the most residents have an average top income tax rate of 3.9%. The 10 losing the most? 8.8%. The winners: South Carolina, Idaho, North Carolina, Tennessee, Montana, Nevada. The losers: New York, California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Illinois. Same pattern. Every single year. Washington has historically been on the receiving end of this migration. No income tax. Competitive for founders and investors. That’s been the pitch. Now the legislature wants to add a 9.9% income tax on high earners, strip the federal QSBS exclusion at the state level, and stack that on top of an existing capital gains tax. The combined rate in Seattle would approach 18%. You don’t get to look at this data and then vote to make Washington more like New York and California. The numbers tell you exactly what happens next. People leave — and they take their companies, their capital, and their tax revenue with them. The March 12 legislative deadline is approaching. If you’re a Washington founder, investor, or employer, now is the time to make your voice heard.

I am in favor of voter ID. I’m more troubled by the proof of citizenship requirement, not because I think non-citizens should be able to vote, but because those requirements can be unfairly onerous. None of the situations described here require proof of citizenship.

With Zuck’s move to Florida, California’s total taxable wealth from billionaires has plummeted to well under $1T from over $2T just a few weeks ago. The loss of this tax revenue was totally avoidable but is now forever. All because Gavin Newsom stood motionless as this stupidly written bill, from a fringe union and a handful of socialist academics with an axe to grind, meandered its way into the public conversation without any action from him and freaked everyone out. These were all people that were paying 13%+ in state income tax every year WITH NO COMPLAINTS UNTIL A FEW WEEKS AGO. And now, for the rest of time, the lost tax revenues from these folks will have to be paid for by the middle class because they are the only group left in California large enough that you can tax to fill the hole. He’s forsaken the middle class instead of managing the budget, managing the deficit, eliminating even a portion of California’s gargantuan waste and abuse. He could have done any of these things at any point over the past 7+ years. But he was silent. And now California’s budget will implode and he wants to run for President. Insane.

Talking about the SAVE Act, Abby Phillip says 21.63 million people don't have proof of citizenship. "In general, more than 9%, according to the Brennan Center analysis, 9% of American citizens of voting age, 21.3 million people don't have proof of citizenship readily available. At least 3.8 million don't have these documents at all because they were lost, destroyed, or stolen. Over 8% of self-identified white Americans don't have citizenship documents readily available. A large percentage of Americans don't have passports, many of them in red states. So, I mean, I get the idea that Republicans think that this is like a one-up on voter I.D., but it could also be something that kind of is like the door slamming them right back in the face." If that's the case, they need to FIX that before they can vote. If they're stupid enough not to figure it out, they shouldn't be able to vote.

I’ve been in California the last few days, and the failures of this beautiful state are impossible to ignore. Thanks to CA’s Top Two primary, there’s a real chance both November governor candidates are Republicans. With Democrats splitting the vote, Steve Hilton and Chad Bianco are polling at the top. This isn’t a normal race — it’s a referendum on Gavin Newsom. June 2, 2026 matters. America Wins When Newsom Loses.

Just how far left has the Democratic Party shifted in immigration? This was our party’s position in 2008 when Obama won. Illegal immigration must be stopped, and we need to expand enforcement. This same position would get you called a white supremacist in today’s party.
