Hidden inside the release was something that wasn’t supposed to ship: a debug file packed with roughly half a million lines of internal source code. Within minutes, a researcher named Chaofan Shou caught it and dropped a link on X. From there, it went viral—tens of millions saw the post. The code was downloaded, duplicated, and spread across GitHub before Anthropic even had time to react. Once they realized what happened, Anthropic rushed to remove the package and began issuing takedown notices. But by then, the situation had already taken on a life of its own. Across the world, a developer named Sigrid Jin woke up to chaos. Known for being one of the heaviest Claude Code users—reportedly pushing tens of billions of tokens—he had the leaked code locally. Instead of sitting on it, he made a bold move: he rebuilt the entire system himself in Python before the morning was over. He released it publicly under a new name. Because it was a fresh implementation, it stood apart legally from the original leak—and it exploded in popularity, becoming one of the fastest-growing repositories GitHub has ever seen. Not stopping there, he began reworking it again—this time in Rust. Meanwhile, others ensured the original leak wouldn’t disappear, uploading it to decentralized platforms with the clear message that it was there to stay. The irony?
