Health Minister Dr Chris Baryomunsi criticised the inspection style of Local Government ministers Balaam Barugahara and Justine Nameere, saying government inspections should focus on solving problems, not making arrests. Speaking on UBC TV, he said even after finding patients unattended during his night visit to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, he rejected calls to arrest absentee health workers, insisting supportive supervision is more effective. His remarks come after Balaam and Nameere’s anti-corruption operations, where only 3 of 19 health workers were found on duty at Naiku HC III by 9am, 9 staff were reportedly untraceable, a headteacher was arrested after finding 705 pupils against a declared enrolment of 1,352, and Bulambuli officials were arrested over alleged misuse of over Shs500 million in road and bridge funds.

This evening at State House Entebbe, I met H.E. Dr. Kamba Mulanda Samuel Roger, the DRC Minister of Public Health, who delivered a special message from President Félix Tshisekedi on the Ebola outbreak. I reaffirmed Uganda’s readiness to support our brothers and sisters in the DRC through treatment, technical expertise and close regional cooperation. Uganda contained its recent Ebola cases through early detection, treatment and strict public health measures. I also proposed establishing Ebola treatment centres inside eastern DRC to ensure early treatment closer to the affected communities and help contain the disease at its source.

This afternoon, I hosted the Presidential Pearl to Cape Expedition 2025 Homecoming Luncheon to celebrate the successful journey of the Kayoola E-Coach from Uganda to South Africa and back. I congratulate the Kiira Motors team on this historic achievement, which demonstrates that Africa can design, manufacture and export its own technology. Before colonialism, our people had an integrated economy built on artisans and indigenous knowledge. Our task now is to restore that foundation through modern industrialization. I have directed the relevant Ministries to move with speed, secure financing, guarantee off-take for locally manufactured buses, and support battery production. We must stop working slowly. Uganda’s industrial transformation cannot wait.

This morning, I joined the people of West Nile and the entire nation to mourn Gen. Moses Ali , and laid a wreath on his coffin at Parliament. He made an important contribution to Uganda’s history. He rejected the brutality of Idi Amin’s regime, worked with us in the struggle for freedom, promoted peace and remained committed to the development of West Nile. Gen. Ali understood that peace and development go together. I therefore appeal to the leaders in West Nile and the whole country that they should continue working hard to raise household incomes and achieve prosperity. I thank him for his service to Uganda and pray that his soul rests in eternal peace.
