I’m heading to the Games for Change Games & SDG Summit in Nairobi 🇰🇪 next week. From BIOFIN conversations to SDGs in games, my focus remains clear, building strong monetization systems for Africa’s gaming ecosystem. Africa has the talent. Now we build the systems. #gaming @G4C

One bad ad wiped out 20,000 daily active users in hours. Not because the product failed. Because the ad experience did. In this episode, I sit down with Ezgi Dogan, a well-known monetization consultant and former engineer who works with gaming and non-gaming publishers. She sees patterns most studios never see — from deceptive-by-design creatives to algorithm changes that quietly double ad duration overnight. And the reality is uncomfortable: publishers often think they understand their ad quality problem. The data usually says it’s worse. This conversation is part of PlayerFirst Perspectives, a podcast series on #MobileGroove powered by @appharbr . It’s a series about fixing ad quality and building smarter ad policies so users stay in your app or game — and you can enforce what you believe is right for your players. 🎧 Listen in on 🔵 YouTube: youtube.com/watch?v=p5AyV0… 🟢 Spotify: open.spotify.com/episode/6ayt1N… 🟡 Apple: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/a-s… 👉 Join the conversation Be part of the Player First Collective on Slack, where marketers, monetization leads and product teams share real examples, data and solutions around ad quality: join.slack.com/t/playerfirstc…

Great conversation with Guillaume Noé, VP of Growth at @carry1st one of the sharpest growth minds in African gaming. We’re aligned on one thing: scaling games & esports in Africa as a real industry with infrastructure, talent pipelines, and measurable outcomes. Africa was never “left behind.” The audience has always been here. What’s changing now is the structure. Respect to Guillaume for blending creativity + analytics to build high-performing growth teams across gaming & payments. Big thanks to Sam Pottinger for making this happen. Momentum is real from AFCON-week esports activations to pan-African tournaments. The market is maturing. At Chroma Pixel Games, through Esports Africa @EsportsANewsKY , we’re pushing further: helping African players & devs build brands and scalable careers. Africa isn’t up next. Africa is building now. #AfricanGaming #EsportsAfrica #Carry1st #ChromaPixelGames #CapeTown #GamingIndustry #GrowthMindset

When I first joined Base, I was leading builder activation in East Africa. @BasedKago and I built the community from a handful of builders. Then I added focus to Southern Africa. Same thing. 10+ cities, telling people about Base everywhere. Then the Base App launched. That's when it hit me: we're still just getting started. The real opportunity is connecting the great projects our builders create with millions of everyday Africans to get them onchain. Trading, transacting, building wealth without all the barriers that usually lock people out. Today I’m excited to share that, 𝗜'𝗺 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁. We're backing builders shipping real solutions by growing the chain and The Base App. Getting people onchain at scale. Africa is going onchain. 🌍

It's not even enough to start a project, even if you've got the best partner in the world. You'll still have to learn constantly. Experiment, fail, iterate, improve. Many inexperienced studios think landing the right deal is all it takes for their game to catch fire. But real partnerships require 50/50 commitment. No matter how strong your partner is, if you don't bring equal energy to the table, it won't work. Now is the time to invest in partnerships that will make you unbeatable in the long run. Don't chase "the best" partner in general, chase the best partner for you. @techtrends_zm @africacomicade @Xsolla @IGDA #base #gaming #crypto #games #gaming #videogames

💰 If you are still treating your paywall like a static screen, you are leaving serious money on the table. That was one of the clearest takeaways from my conversation with Lanre Akinyemi, VP Growth at @Superwall . He does not talk about monetization as a moment. He talks about monetization as a system you actively design, test and refine. This interview makes three things unmistakably clear: ◉ You need to treat your paywall like a landing page, not a one-off screen ◉ You drive conversion through timing, context and personalization, not clever pricing alone ◉ You win by compounding small changes, not waiting for one big breakthrough There is a short moment in the clip that hints at just how much leverage sits inside the paywall once you stop treating it as an afterthought. If you own monetization, subscriptions or revenue growth, this conversation is not optional. 🎧The full interview is live on @apppromotion of Apps youtube.com/watch?v=5iiLjT…

Spoke with @BBCFocusAfrica about founder burnout and mental health in Africa's startup and business scene. How hard being an entrepreneur can be, is a conversation we need to have more often. youtu.be/eW7t8AOv37M?si…

In his 20s, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe worked as a truck driver during the construction of the Isoka-Chinali Road. In a kind of full-circle of events, the toll gate on the Isoka-Chinsali Road has been named after him.

Leadership in the African games industry was never about visibility. It’s been about infrastructure. While most were chasing attention, I’ve been pushing Base-level thinking into African games building foundations, pipelines, and products where none existed.Beyond building, it’s about conversion: turning archives into profit, transforming ideas, IP, and unused assets into real economic value, and activating every layer of the industry chain from talent to tech, from content to commerce.Real movements don’t start loud. They start quiet, underestimated, and ignored. Until consistency compounds and vision turns belief into scale. @BasedSouthernAF @Lady_Light_Lsk @JitoKayumba @blackgirlgamers #chromapixelgames #crypto #gaming #base
