@PsyDocCindy Culturally relevant pedagogy- recognize knowledge in all forms and *TALK* to the students, let them tell you what constitutes background knowledge on a subject- what connections do they make/see with the target objectives. Value them.

How do K-12 educators deal with the differences in prior knowledge in their students to try and create equitable learning experiences? I want to learn from you.

This morning my school engaged in a phenomenal professional development on Critical Literacy Any district that has adopted Into Reading (or any other curriculum found to be culturally destructive) PD on critical literacy is beyond imperative.

In all my years in a testing grade, I have yet to see a single test passage centering the language, culture or experiences of urban Black or Brown youth & their communities. I can only assume this is by design.

@one_lison @ValentinaESL In a sense, ELA does- they’re acquiring a language of literature- IMO all teachers should be trained to teach/support SLA. Students already have language, it’s acquiring the specific use in that context with that instructor.

The Decolonial, Postcolonial, & Anticolonial Studies SIG would like to show its unwavering support and solidarity with Palestine. Just as this statement expresses, we must refuse silence by situating Palestine within broad historical contexts of settler colonialism/imperialism.

Translanguaging at its best 🙌🏽🔥🤯 #LanguageMatters In less than 9 weeks immersed in the English language — not just ESL in isolation… 1 ESL course 6 core content course.

Stop telling educators to practice self-care. Instead, put forth energy to eliminate the systems, structures, and practices that require educators to need so much self-care in the first place.

Appreciating that everyone has an accent is step # 1. Acknowledging the hierarchization of accents and resulting power imbalances is step # 2.

Ok, so I understand the "teachers should dress like a professional if they want to be treated and paid like one" argument BUT Y'ALL it literally has been over a hundred years and that hasn't worked, so what if we just wore jeans.

A5: Promote the use of students' first language to help derive meaning. Utilize cross-linguistic anchor charts, linguistically relevant word walls, books in different languages, and, most importantly, encourage them to embrace their full linguistic repertoire!#TRISchat

The "native speaker" needs the presence of a "nonnative speaker" in order to highlight their alleged linguistic superiority. Native-speakerism is always relational.
