Let’s ignore the “did it hit his hand or not” debacle Is it not in the rules that if the ball hits your hand while it’s in line with your body then it’s not a handball? It’s only if you’re making yourself bigger I’m sure … so it’s a bad decision either way if that’s the case?

Gary Lineker was quick to give his opinion on the penalty awarded. Any footballer who has played at a high level will be able to see his point of view. He jumps with the ball and tries to protect his face from the other player’s arm. Unfortunately, his hand goes a little (too) high, and as a result, the ball hits his hand slightly after he heads it away. A footballer would never consider this a penalty because the ball is headed away 99% of the time and only hits his hand 1% of the time. And the hand is there to protect oneself! The referee consults the VAR because, when zooming in, it looks as though he is putting his hand in front of his head. That is true, but the ball is headed (far) away and, as it is cleared, the ball lightly touches his hand. This can and must never be a penalty, so I fully understand the fuss. We have to deal with the VAR, and sometimes it goes our way and sometimes it doesn’t. An entire season doesn’t hinge on this. Hopefully Saturday’s match won’t be decided by the VAR…

@ScotRail I'm talking about right now. 2 trains in a row cancelled to Ayrshire in last hour. Info was taken off the board at top platforms then re appeared with platform number. Luckily passengers talked to each other to spread the news rather than tannoy or board. Staff hadn't a clue.
