56,316 Australians have spoken—but the politicians don’t want to listen. One Nation’s petition to refer Senator Fatima Payman to the High Court was officially lodged in the Senate this week. It raised serious constitutional questions about her eligibility, questions every honest Australian wants answered. Earlier this year, I gave the Senate a chance to do the right thing. A clear vote to refer Payman to the High Court over her likely breach of Section 44. But Labor, the Greens, the Coalition and the crossbench all shut it down. They closed ranks. They protected one of their own. And in doing so, they put politics ahead of the Constitution. Back in 2017 and 2018, fifteen politicians were ruled ineligible under Section 44 because they held foreign citizenship. The High Court made it crystal clear: dual citizens must take all reasonable steps to renounce before they nominate. So why is Senator Payman, still listed as an Afghan citizen, being treated differently? Because Albanese, the Greens, and even Peter Dutton are too gutless to act. They’re terrified of losing her vote. Terrified of offending minority groups. Terrified of standing up for what’s right. This isn’t just a disgrace. It’s a betrayal. A betrayal of the Constitution. A betrayal of the public. A betrayal of every Australian who plays by the rules. We are just weeks out from an election and Senator Payman, likely ineligible to sit in Parliament, has used her position to register a new political party. A party with disturbing links to extremist Islamist politics. A party designed to influence the outcome of our election. We’re supposed to believe that’s fair? That this is normal? That this is democracy? The major parties won’t act. But One Nation will. We will keep fighting to have this referred to the High Court. We will fight to uphold the Constitution. And we will fight to clean out the rot in Canberra, where backroom deals, self interests and political favours come before basic integrity.
