Last night, you braved the rain, the cold, and the chill in the air - yet your presence brought warmth that filled Theatre in the Park. You reminded us why we do what we do. Tonight, we rise again! The tension thickens and the animals have more secrets to reveal.

@nickmangwana Garazviya Insiza iri mu same highway nhai? PS this road is in a deplorable state. Please take a day to drive on it for yourself. In January, Bitumen was literally patching the road using gravel. I wonder with the rains if they made any major headway.

STATUS REPORT ON THE BULAWAYO-VICTORIA FALLS HIGHWAY “It has come to our attention that a social media post is circulating, showing 3 people posing in a pothole on a road claimed to be part of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Highway. While we acknowledge that certain sections of the highway are in dire need of rehabilitation, the images in the post do not correspond to any section of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Highway. The sections requiring urgent attention are currently being addressed through a collaborative effort between the Department of Roads and Bitumen World. Work is already underway, with teams camped in Hwange, Halfway, and Insiza to ensure the road is rehabilitated efficiently.”

The recent panel discussion at the #2024APNAssembly titled "Telling the Tale of APN: From Seed to Forest" featured weighty insights from @bisiafayemi, @jmawiyoo, and @bheki_moyo, delving into the evolution of philanthropy in Africa and its strategic imperatives for the future. @bheki_moyo highlighted the critical shift in development paradigms, emphasizing the need for foundations to go beyond traditional power struggles and align more closely with the cultures and contexts they serve. He reflected on the foundational conversations held in 2009, hosted by 25 organizations under the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF), which also deliberated on setting up a legacy fund. These discussions were critical in shaping principles around shifting power and decolonizing philanthropy. @bisiafayemi revisited the history of the @awdf01, noting how its inception challenged prevailing misconceptions that Africans could not be philanthropists. Despite skepticism, the AWDF, through strategic support from entities like the @FordFoundation, significantly shaped the space for African Philanthropy. Bisi underscored the importance of peer learning and capacity building, which were strengthened through initiatives like the 2005 Ford Initiative to Strengthen Philanthropy, culminating in a robust endowment strategy and establishing a precedent for future foundations across Africa. @jmawiyoo responded by pointing out the visible growth and diversification within the sector, highlighting the increased stability and ownership of new and long-term institutions. She advocated for greater unity within the ecosystem, stressing the importance of embracing diversity while striving for collective goals. The discussion then pivoted to how the philanthropic community could leverage its diverse strengths more effectively. @bisiafayemi posited the need for deeper engagements beyond familiar circles to broaden the influence and perception of African philanthropy. She emphasized the critical role of building robust, trust-based relationships and organizational resilience to ensure that institutions outlive their founders and continue to thrive. @bheki_moyo revisited the transition from AGN to APN, recalling a challenge by Mrs. Machel in 2012 about inclusivity, which spurred broader engagement and the necessity for different forums, including high-net-worth individuals and regional blocs. He advocated for a unified platform to consolidate efforts and enhance knowledge generation, ensuring that vital insights and historical contexts are documented for future generations. In conclusion, the panelists collectively emphasized the ongoing need for strategic collaboration, documentation of philanthropic efforts, and continuous learning to adapt to changing political and legal frameworks. They highlighted the importance of building a credible and united sector capable of addressing new challenges through synergized efforts, underpinned by a deep commitment to nurturing the next generation of philanthropic leaders and scholars across Africa. @TengaStigmata @tarisaijangara @InfoAPN @sivioinstitute @LRFZimbabwe @FCSTZ @capsi_africa

#2024APNAssembly The community session on “power” has begun with deep reflections on who owns power. For some of the panelists, power is necessary and that our current system of aid and development have always been divided by different aspects of power
