@_jameshatfield_ @BeneRomi @zeta_globin Goodness I never thought I would stumble into a cross linking thread on this app but here we are. Had cross linking in both eyes, totally unprepared for the post op recovery, they said “oh it’s kinda uncomfortable” turns out that means absolutely HORRENDOUS.

I had cross linking in one eye. The healing process was horrendous. “Here’s some liquid cocaine for your eye but don’t use it too much or it will melt your cornea… oh and by the way if you use too little it will feel like a kitten is trying to claw its way out of your eye socket”

meeting people with lasik always provides such fast valuable insight into someone's risk reward calculation process
Handre@Handre

LASIK eye surgery cost $2,200 per eye in 2000. Today it's around $1,000 per eye despite 24 years of inflation. Meanwhile, an MRI that cost $1,200 in 2000 now costs $3,000+. The difference? LASIK operates in a free market with no insurance interference and minimal regulation. When patients pay directly, providers must compete on price and quality. LASIK clinics advertise prices, offer financing, and constantly improve technology to attract customers. Compare this to hospital procedures where prices are hidden, patients never see bills, and insurance companies negotiate opaque rates that somehow always increase faster than inflation. Cosmetic surgery follows the same pattern. Breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, and other elective procedures have become more affordable and safer over decades. Surgeons invest in better techniques and equipment because they must satisfy paying customers, not insurance bureaucrats or hospital administrators focused on maximizing reimbursements. The lesson is clear: remove third-party payment systems and excessive regulation, and you get Austrian economics in action. Prices fall, quality rises, and innovation accelerates. Healthcare costs aren't rising because of aging populations or new technology—they're rising because we've destroyed the price mechanism that makes markets work.

@TesCalendar1 @MisterG134334 @ionnaofficial @ElectrifyAm It is so funny to me that Tesla stans can’t acknowledge that Tesla has totally lost the huge technology lead they had in charging hardware in the last couple years. They obviously still have more scale but that will diminish as they focus more and more on the robotics pipe dream.

I just want to take a minute and saw WHAT THE HECK IS ELON THINKING. First off, he says to have more kids. Great, I’m all for that and working on that. Then he says we are all going to trade our personal cars for Robotaxi’s? Ok ok… if you’re single, you may not understand how absolutely historical this notion is. Situation 1: My family of 4 wants to go out to dinner. We have 2 kids in car seats. I haul a Robotaxi. Crap it’s just a 2 seater. Now we hail one bigger (Model Y?). Cool, we can all fit. Now I dimply around the back seat for 30 minutes properly installing 2 car seats. Now we load up the kids, get in the front seats, and we are FINALLY off. Then we get there. So now I need to remove 2 car seats and somehow carry 2 kids AND 2 car seats inside the restaurant. This is boarder line impossible but hey, it’s fine. All in the name of Elon’s mission. And this is actually the easier scenario. And oh yeah, we get to do this all over again just to go home, not to mention if we wanted to make other stops. Each stop you get to do this again and again and again… wow. Scenario 2: We want to visit family 200mi away as we frequently do. Same load up difficulties as before but it’s amplified… by a lot. Now we need a stroller, pack and play, toys, diaper bags, coolers, luggage for all of us, and more! So now the Robotaxi comes and waited for us to load for a good hour. If I’m being honest, that’s a huge underestimate. But that’s besides the point. So we try to cram all of that in a Model Y (FYI - it won’t fit. That’s why we sold our Y for a BUZZ) and we are off. 200 miles of being chauffeured. Suddenly, one of the kids isn’t feeling good and throws up. Shoot, we didn’t bring the proper rags to clean this mess up. Now what? When we use to own a car extra supplies like this just lived in the car! Ugh. Whatever, we use that But the annoyance continues. We get there, unload, and the Robotaxi takes off. We made it. Now we can enjoy family. We usually stay at the grandparents house BUT WAIT, now we want to go over to the aunt and uncles (real scenario). So now there’s 6 of us, crud. We need TWO Robotaxi’s. And now I get to do the fun of scenario 1 all over again. So we visit the aunt and uncles and now I get to do it AGAIN. And now we want to go out to dinner and I get to do it AGAIN. TWICE. You get the point, to say this is incredibly impractical is a drastic understatement. Seriously, WHO THOUGHT THIS THROUGH?!?! And I’m not even going to try to explain how the great American vacation is also ruined by this. Long story short, the amount of people willing to give up their personal vehicles is close to zero.

@MisterG134334 @TesCalendar1 Definitely a very short sighted design choice by Tesla. I know you disagree and think Tesla can do no wrong but it’s just a fact.
