There was a recognition that some people would be too dimwitted to understand that global warming doesn’t mean “always warmer” weather.

Seeing story after story about record low snow pack and record high temperatures in the Western U.S. has me quite scared of the future given how bad fire season has already been for my entire adult life. We are not ready for this at all.

Record warmth will persist across portions of California, the Southwest U.S., the central Great Basin and will return to areas of the central/southern Plains and mid-lower Mississippi Valley later this week.

What we currently know:
• Morrill Fire is the biggest, impacting Keith, Arthur, Grant, Garden and Morrill counties and burning 572,804 acres.
• Cottonwood Fire is the second largest, impacting Dawson, Lincoln and Frontier counties and burning 122,144 acres.
• Road 203 Fire, impacting Thomas, Custer, Logan and Blaine counties and burning 35,814 acres.
• Anderson Bridge Fire, impacting Cherry County and burning 16,405 acres.
