Effective tax systems provide governments with the resources necessary to fund regulatory bodies, strengthen product safety standards, and build institutions capable of holding corporations accountable. On this World Consumer Rights Day, we call upon governments, businesses, and civil society to work together to create markets where safety, transparency, and accountability are non-negotiable. Taxation of High Net Worth Individuals is an emerging policy area, with many countries, including those in Africa, establishing dedicated units within their tax administrations to manage HNWI affairs. Ongoing discussions are also exploring targeted measures such as special tax rates or even a net wealth tax. These reforms are largely driven by the need to strengthen domestic revenue for public services and sustainable development, while addressing rising inequality and ensuring fair taxation. Tanzania, with a Gini coefficient of 0.413, is part of this broader conversation. To access more details, click the link and download the full policy brief. policyforum-tz.org/node/6097
