Congratulations to the @delgadocc baseball team as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of Louisiana’s first junior college athletics program. This remarkable program was founded by Louis “Rags” Scheuermann and continues today under the leadership of his son, head coach @Joescheu. Their leadership, along with the talent, dedication, and hard work of the players, has made a phenomenal impact on the school and our community. I look forward to seeing this legacy carried forward for years to come in honor of my late, great friends Maureen and Rags Scheuermann.

Dr. Norman Francis was a trailblazer and legend, both in education and society. When he delivered Delgado’s Fall 2017 Commencement address, he encouraged everyone to always ask “What’s next?”, a mantra that obviously served him very well over his 94 years. He was a role model and friend to generations of our family and left a legacy that won’t be forgotten.

20 years ago today, on February 12, 2006, the improbable became reality when “Rags” Scheuermann Field at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium hosted its first game post-Katrina (Delgado vs. Lincoln Land). The field was near ground zero of the worst natural disaster in American history, flooded, and wind worn and still came back to life just a few months later. Rooney was the first New Orleans sports facility impacted by the storm to reopen and hasn’t missed a beat since. It’s gotten better with age each year since as the Home of New Orleans baseball and a local landmark.

Give the cameraman who did the work on the flyover a raise. This was exceptional.
