Just wanna officially state that this is my artwork and is NOT REAL. This is just an exercise in speculative evolution. Got me worrying that this breached containment and is going to people from outside of the spec evo community.

Living trilobites have been discovered in the sediments of the Philippines trench, in a coelacanth-type miracle of the 21st century. The waves of time have carved them into a worm-like form no more than 0.5mm long, lying almost motionless in the these cold, dark sediments.

@DanangAW1996 How are penguins, seals, and monitor lizards more suited for beating the whales to the race back to land? Or are you suggesting that whales would go extinct from being out competed by aquatic seals and penguins?

In 50 million years, whales would once again return to land, against all odds, as the jaw-hearing dogphin. There should be a big middle ground between Serpencetus and Carnicetus but this will do for now, before I get to render that transitional species too.

@FunPoliceCo The single toe build is cuz they have no elbow, so their fingers hypertrophied to replace the needed missing joints. You can see the smaller fingers indicating where its real wrist is.

@anthro_andrew Highly likely that whales can go back to being terrestrial, but it was still fun to imagine a timeline where things line up just right for them to become land dwelling again! I definitely skipped through a bunch of intermediate stages that would have made this more sensible lol
