Sometimes the zero sum thinking that informs bitter rivalries masks the simplest of truths: Pakistan’s US-Iran mediation is a good thing for India. These mediation efforts are meant to help deescalate a dangerous and deepening conflict that India would much prefer be over.

I am pleased to share a great news that the Government of Iran has agreed to allow 20 more ships under the Pakistani flag to pass through the Strait of Hormuz; two ships will cross the Strait daily.
This is a welcome and constructive gesture by Iran and deserves appreciation. It is a harbinger of peace and will help usher stability in the region.
This positive announcement marks a meaningful step toward peace and will strengthen our collective efforts in that direction.

My guess as to how this proceeds: Trump walks away, "Mission Accomplished", leaves Strait as a problem for ROW. Iran tolls it, arguing the toll funds are needed to rebuild the country. But they are generous w/ deals and avoid tolling it to a point that provokes crisis or outrage.

@uber_trading Fair. I'm not making a call on how long, or what oil price. It's not meant to be a bullish market statement. It's just the only eventual equilibrium I can envision--US gone, Iran tolling the Strait (or getting something else worth the equivalent of that).

I’ve been mulling over India’s position too, but for a different reason—the seven warships deployed, are they truly only for oil? Both US aircraft carriers near Iran were attacked recently. India is sending warships. The UAE and GCC are talking of military mobilisation. If something is happening, it’s likely to begin soon, after markets close.

In just 24 hours, India’s top leadership has been unusually active. Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting with all Chief Ministers. NSA Ajit Doval held a high-level security review. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met with key ministers. At the same time, Modi publicly urged unity amid the ongoing tensions in West Asia. Even the Army Chief visited Jagannath Temple and offered prayers for soldiers and their families. Coincidence? Or quiet preparation? Something feels like it’s moving beneath the surface. 🇮🇳
