HMOs are non-lactose oligosaccharides found in human milk. They are probiotics in treating and preventing gut inflammation: improving the abundance of the gut microbiota, increasing the gut barrier function, and reducing the gut inflammatory reaction.

Heard the saying "you are what you eat"? It’s not just a phrase – it's a reality check! Your well-being, from the makeup of your gut microbiome to the neurotransmitter & hormones that affect your mood are influenced by the composition of your diet. Choose wisely. :-) #guthealth

🤔 Did you know that diet plays a central role in shaping the gut microbiota? Join us as we discuss this with Niccolò Meriggi, RTD at IBBA-CNR, in the upcoming online seminar of #Spoke6. We will explore what the microbiota is, how it is studied, and the impact of diet on modulating intestinal microbial communities, and thus on human health. ⏰ 6th September, from 3 PM to 5 PM 🔗 Online at meet.google.com/tnw-kkpn-uyv

When you chop #broccoli & allow it to sit for 90 minutes before cooking, it activates myrosinase, an enzyme linked w/potential anti-cancer benefits. Once activated, the enzyme remains even when the vegetable is stir-fried. #healthyeating #healthyfood

Prebiotics and Probiotics: The Dynamic Duo of Gut Health Your gut is home to a bustling community of trillions of microorganisms known as the gut microbiome. This microscopic world in your digestive tract plays a crucial role in your overall health, influencing everything from digestion and immunity to mood and mental well-being. Two key players in maintaining a healthy gut microbiome are prebiotics and probiotics. These dynamic duos work together to nurture the beneficial bacteria in your gut, promoting a balanced and thriving ecosystem. Let's delve deeper into prebiotics and probiotics, how they work, and how to incorporate them into your diet for optimal #GutHealth. Prebiotics: Fuel for the Good Guys #Prebiotics are non-digestible fibers found in various plant-based foods. Your body can't break them down, but they serve as a vital food source for the beneficial bacteria in your gut. Think of prebiotics as fertilizer for your gut garden. They promote the growth and activity of probiotics, helping them thrive and maintain a balanced gut environment. Probiotics: The Beneficial Bacteria #Probiotics are live microorganisms (mainly bacteria and some yeasts) that offer numerous health benefits when consumed in adequate amounts. They occur naturally in some fermented foods and are also available as supplements. Probiotics add to the population of good bacteria in your gut, helping to crowd out harmful bacteria, aid digestion, support immune function, and may even play a role in mental health. The Dynamic Duo Prebiotics and probiotics work best as a team. Prebiotics provide the nourishment needed to flourish, while probiotics contribute to a balanced and diverse gut microbiome. This synergy has been linked to a wide range of health benefits, including: • Improved digestion: Helps promote regularity and ease digestive discomfort. • Enhanced immune function: A healthy gut plays a significant role in overall immunity. • Reduced inflammation: May help with conditions associated with chronic gut inflammation. • Mood and mental health support: Emerging research suggests a connection between the gut and the brain. • Improved nutrient absorption: Helps your body get the most out of your food. • Weight management: May help regulate appetite and metabolism. • Skin health: A healthy gut may contribute to clearer skin. Incorporating Prebiotics and Probiotics The best way to get prebiotics and probiotics is through a balanced diet rich in whole foods. Focus on incorporating a variety of the following foods to support a diverse gut microbiome: While prebiotics and probiotics are generally safe for most people, it's always best to talk to your doctor if you have any health concerns or are considering probiotic supplements.

Low salt levels can trigger a process in your body called internal starvation. Your body needs salt to survive. When salt intake isn’t high enough, your body kicks into action to make sure it maintains enough salt to perform its critical functions.
