My proposal for 2027: lean into it. Beer, cigarettes, couches - let’s make it a thing. By 2028 we’ll need stands, a beer truck and hostesses. 140 riders to watch Poggi and vdp duke it out.

@vt_clicks Ok. So how about a mountain top finish only for those riders who still care for GC and stage. Rest gets some random time added to GC and doesn’t have to go up. Road is small, many fans so better for just 30 riders. Must be 35C minimum though. Health first for the big sprinters.

@ulif I took your question as rhetorical, given its absurdity. It didn’t ‘open my eyes’ at all. I still can’t wrap my head around why their actions upset you so much. Pro racers have been dropping out of races once their jobs are done for about as long as there have been races.

The hypothesis is well worth examining rather than a complete shut down of discussion. Do we just 'trust the science'. Science is never settled, it is interrogated so that things get better, get resolved, get understood. Fauci has never fully explained his and his cabals actions.

@ulif And it turned an ceremonial snoozefest into a classic. Mind you, where decent sprinters still get a chance for victory, as we saw last week. Also, cutting it short was due to the police being understaffed due to forest fire. You’re waaaay overthinking this.

@effe_nrml_doen But there is. The sport focuses more on dopamin sized action sequences instead of attrition based endurance. Case in point: last stage doesn’t count for overall but let’s cut it short and add a hill.

@ulif You're missing one crucial detail: the race was effectively over three laps before the finish on the Champs-Élysées. The GC times were already locked in. They weren't stopping before the finish line, because for them, the race had already been decided.

@ulif By that point, their GC times no longer mattered. After three weeks of racing, they finally had a chance to take in the atmosphere and watch the stage finish together. I don't see the problem.
