@baqirsajjad I think it will truly arrive once a post-war order with Iran controlling the strait of Hormuz settles and Iran's strategic victory is no longer deniable in the US.

This Al Jazeera story read together with CBS report gives me a strong sense of déjà vu and it looks the post-9/11 moment when suspicions quickly replaced trust in Pakistan as a candid ally either has arrived again or is very nearby.
Al Jazeera Breaking News@AJENews

BREAKING: US officials say Pakistan often presents a more positive picture of Iran’s position than reality, prompting Trump allies to urge Pakistani intermediaries to be more candid in their communications with Tehran. 🔴 More on Aljazeera.com

Increasingly clear countries like Pakistan have no viable growth path other than by raising domestic production and consumption. And that can’t happen without mobilizing and redistributing the means for both.
Farwa Sial@farwasial

Many implications: 1. National Green industrial policy cannot be predicated on exports. 2. Impossible to replicate E.Asian Developmental model. 3. Our countries cannot really even become the next Vietnam /Bangladesh. 4. Capitalist development is a myth.

@omar_quraishi You were NEVER an editor at a major Pakistani newspaper. Editor refers to editor-in-chief, a position you never came close to holding. Its pathetic. Yes some loosely call lesser managers “editors” as an internal courtesy, but you know that’s not what you’re implying, grifter.

Speaking of Track 2 and Track 1/2 dialogue between India and Pakistan — over a decade ago I took part in one such initiative — sitting on my left was a recently retired three star general who had commanded the Corps that oversaw operations in Kashmir I thought to myself that when in uniform he was overseeing military operations in Indian Kashmir and now he wanted to discuss peace with Pakistanis I was working as an editor at that point in time at a major Pakistani newspaper It ran for two days and one of the speakers invited for the closed door meetings was a former former foreign minister and the then serving foreign secretary

@zburki You probably need 10 slop dramas to justify 1 risk like Pakeezah or tan man and it seems the film industry can't afford that kind of risk due to bad unit economics. Film city may help there (genuinely hope it does) if not derailed by censorship or rent-seeking.

@umerzai_b Yes. Because the local cinemas also shut down. I mean, I hear there's a theatre in Lahore that charges an insane amount. Cinema for the elite. [Who dont even go watch these movies] crazy. Anyhow, hope regular folks can watch regular film on regular pricing!

The proposed Punjab Film City is a good idea if it has transparent management, professional collaboration and long-term policy support. Our edit today: thenews.pk/print/1414092-…

@zburki Ill give you that it seems the right ingredients are present. But i'd be surprised if the dish doesn't come out undercooked as usual. Re: film vs tv, maybe it has to with the economics of cinema-going vs tv advertising...

@umerzai_b Unfort hardly a monopoly they or frankly any govt holds! But yes: Big Project trumps piecemeal real reform. To me, if within the self-promo stuff something halfway decent is managed, would be a win for film-walas. Im still confused over why Pak TV is so so superior to Pk cinema.

@zburki Not the only for sure. And always respect a diversified media diet. I just find the Punjab govt's obsession with flashy promises and big spending while ignoring the dearth of basic freedoms so revolting.

@umerzai_b I agree @ censors. Don't quite agree that's the only issue either though tbh. I watch most of the stuff we make here (morbid curiosity) & even the average masala film (I find fluff important!) has to be outsourced so much. Baaki, of course one can debate the good bad ugly forever

@zburki Yes i did, including all 28/424 words discussing freedom of expression. My point is the infrastructure isn't the bottleneck. Censors would kill half the ideas before they ever reached the shiny new sound stage.

Consequences specified in cases where centres and students are guilty of malpractice.. BUT the paper was leaked by British Council staff the previous night, before any of the centres received it. What will Cambridge do about them? 🤫
Faizan Lakhani@faizanlakhani

BREAKING: Cambridge International has cancelled the leaked AS Level Maths Paper 12 (9709/12) after confirming it was shared before the exam. All affected students will sit a replacement paper on 9 June 2026. Cambridge says grades will still be issued normally and promises no candidate will be disadvantaged, while investigations into malpractice continue.

ری سائیکل شدہ ایلومینیم سے بنے برتن پہلے ہی پاکستان میں ایک سنگین مسئلہ بن چکے ہیں۔ پاکستان کے کچن ویئر سیکٹر پر United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)

This aluminum pressure cooker is getting increasingly popular in Pakistan and it might be one of the culprits. There is enough evidence on this causing lead poisoning among children in Afghanistan. If you have one of these then stop using it.

My journey with the Neo News TV has abruptly come to an end. I want to thank my organization for all the help and facilitation during three and half years period. This is not the first time or the first government during which I have to face such a situation. Speaking for democracy, free speech, journalists and journalism is not a crime. I once again thank Neo TV owner and management wish them all the best in their organisational endeavours. #JournalismIsNotAcrime

@zarathustra_3 It’s worse he justified it! Seems to believe postwar liberal order is so powerful that it’s futile to resist. Hes framing their intervention as not interference but “hukoomat karna” under a literal might-is-right framework… makes sense why ppl say he was dictators ka chamcha

See his dishonesty? He completely negated the 40 years of direct American interference in Iran and the root cause of the revolution. You can have a thousand differences with the Iranian mullahs, which i 100% do, but negating the root cause is dishonest.

something interesting i havent seen discussed so much is that pressing red is at least naively moral in the Kantian sense "press red" is a universalizable policy with a good outcome in the original poll, i took the red pill, fully expecting to see like 98% red (and 2% lizards)
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?
