Alternative Movement Commends @natpopcom on Progressive Legislative Development The Alternative Movement takes full notice of the recent commendable development by the National Population Commission and extends its sincere commendation for this important step in advancing our national interest. This development represents a positive example of how constructive engagement between public institutions and civic movements can yield meaningful results for the country. It is especially gratifying to us because the Alternative Movement invested significant effort, expertise, and advocacy in working toward an improved bill. Receiving formal commendation for this work is both encouraging and affirming. Too often, the substantial and patriotic labour carried out by citizens and civic organisations driven solely by love of country goes unacknowledged. This recognition stands out as a welcome departure and sets the right tone for how national development efforts should be encouraged. This is the way to go. The Movement also places on record its special commendation of Mr. Akinloye Olusegun, our in-house legislative drafter, who worked tirelessly under intense pressure to produce the technical and legislative documents that supported this process. His commitment, professionalism, and resilience were critical to the outcome achieved. We wish to make it clear that we are not joking about nation-building. We continue to do the heavy lifting often without applause or expectation of reward because we believe deeply in the possibility of a greater, stronger, and more prosperous country. The Alternative Movement remains committed to constructive engagement, policy excellence, and patriotic service in pursuit of national progress. Signed: Otunba Segun Showunmi Alternative Movement

Today I took some of my people to engage the @FMINONigeria, @HMMohammedIdris, and it was clear to me that he understands the nature of his responsibility. A Minister of Information is not meant to be an attack lion, nor someone who constantly hugs the media or draws excessive attention to himself at the expense of his principal and the actual work of government. He is smooth, honest, and engaging. Without exaggeration, he has one of the toughest jobs after the President. In today’s world, information, disinformation, and misinformation have become powerful forces, and managing national image and government reputation now requires restraint, clarity, and credibility more than noise. My hope is that we, the citizens who truly own this country and hold it in trust for future generations will learn to separate populist propaganda rooted in hate and anger from genuine nationalism. Nationalism, to me, is the sincere desire for a country that meets the hopes, aspirations, and dignity of its people. Otunba Segun Showunmi The Alternative.

Thank You to @AFRICOM and President @Donald J. Trump While others looked away, our shared humanity spoke loudly and for that, we are grateful. We extend our sincere thanks to AFRICOM and to President Donald J. Trump for the timely delivery of critical military supplies to Nigeria. This support strengthens Nigeria’s ongoing security operations and reinforces the importance of our shared commitment to peace, stability, and the protection of innocent lives. At a moment when solidarity matters most, this gesture affirms that true partnerships are built not only on strategic interests, but on human concern. We acknowledge and appreciate the United States’ continued engagement with Nigeria and its willingness to stand with us when it counts. If this does not make you happy for Nigeria you don't deserve to be a citizen of this potentially great nation. Audacity Made Concrete. Vision Carved Beneath the Waves. Africa’s First Underwater Tunnel: Lagos Descends into Destiny Nigeria stands on the brink of an engineering renaissance as Lagos prepares to unveil a monumental 2.9-kilometre underwater tunnel beneath the historic Lagos Lagoon the first of its kind on the African continent. This submerged artery will rise from Ahmadu Bello Way on Victoria Island, pass through Snake Island, and surge toward Badagry, redefining how a nation moves. More than a tunnel, this is a continental connector seamlessly fusing the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway with the vast Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway. The result: traffic bottlenecks dismantled, trade corridors expanded, and regional connectivity elevated to unprecedented heights. Driven by a visionary Public-Private Partnership under President @officialABAT’s Renewed Hope Agenda, this bold endeavor signals a new era of Nigerian infrastructure where ambition meets execution, and imagination is built in steel and stone beneath the sea. From blueprints to boots on the ground, the future is no longer on the horizon it is beneath the waters, advancing relentlessly. Are you ready to glide through the lagoon? Let TechnyFire take you on the ride Otunba Segun Showunmi Dan Maliki The Alternative.

PUBLIC OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT, COURT OF APPEAL, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA My Lord President, I write with deep respect for the @NGCourtofAppeal as a constitutional court of record and, more particularly, as the court that bears the greatest institutional responsibility for maintaining legal coherence and stability in Nigeria’s electoral and political jurisprudence. This letter is written out of civic concern, not partisan interest. Nigeria has reached a point that may properly be described as engaging a doctrine of constitutional necessity. That necessity arises from the proliferation of unresolved appeals before the Court of Appeal concerning the legitimacy of political party executives and leadership structures across the federation. While political parties are voluntary associations, the Constitution accords them a unique status. By virtue of section 221 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), only political parties may canvass for votes or sponsor candidates. Sections 222–228 further regulate their formation, internal structure, and accountability. The implication, long recognised in judicial reasoning, is that instability within political parties has direct constitutional consequences for democratic governance. The Court of Appeal itself has consistently acknowledged this special status. In numerous decisions, it has affirmed that although courts may intervene where statute or party constitutions are breached, intra-party disputes must not be allowed to metastasise into perpetual litigation that paralyses the political system (see Onuoha v. Okafor (1983) 2 SCNLR 244, applied consistently at appellate level; APGA v. Anyanwu (2014) LPELR-22182(CA)). The present situation where virtually all major political parties are entangled in leadership and legitimacy disputes at different appellate stages poses a systemic risk. It threatens to replace democratic competition with procedural gamesmanship, where political advantage is sought through interlocutory reliefs, conflicting orders, and serial appeals rather than through persuasion and lawful party processes. The Court of Appeal has repeatedly deprecated this trend. It has warned against litigants engaging in forum shopping, multiplicity of suits, and abuse of judicial process in intra-party matters (Eze v. PDP (2018) LPELR-44907(CA); Ojukwu v. Yar’Adua (2009) 12 NWLR (Pt. 1154) 50, as consistently followed). The Court has further emphasised that judicial intervention should not encourage political actors to abandon internal remedies mandated by their party constitutions and the Electoral Act (PDP v. Timipre Sylva (CA/YEN/…); APC v. Karfi (2017) 15 NWLR (Pt. 1587) 328, affirmed on appeal). Despite this settled appellate posture, the volume and persistence of these disputes have created a reality in which unresolved appeals now threaten to spill into the pre-election period. Experience shows that when leadership legitimacy remains unsettled close to an election cycle, the consequences are profound: candidate nominations are destabilised, electoral timelines are disrupted, and courts are forced into emergency adjudication under extreme political pressure. It is against this background that I respectfully urge the leadership of the Court of Appeal to consider, within the bounds of judicial independence and due process, the prioritisation and expeditious determination of pending political party leadership appeals, including the use of consolidation, accelerated hearing, and firm case-management powers already recognised in appellate practice. Such timely judicial closure would be entirely consistent with the Court of Appeal’s own jurisprudence. It would: • reinforce the principle that courts are not substitutes for party governance; • discourage vexatious and tactical litigation; • restore certainty to political parties well ahead of the electoral season; and

My Man of the Year is Engr. @DaveUmahi, and Nigeria is taking notice. Through visible results and purposeful leadership, he has shown that hope is not lost. His impact goes beyond the Southeast, reflecting our shared desire for a truly Pan-Nigerian icon one defined by competence, unity, and service. We invite the world to take notice as well. Thank you, Engr. Dave Umahi, for reminding us that leadership can still inspire belief. Nigeria’s Infrastructure Signal to the World: The Tinubu/Umahi Model For international investors and development partners, infrastructure is more than concrete and asphalt. It is a signal of policy coherence, institutional seriousness, and a government’s capacity to convert ambition into durable assets. In Nigeria today, that signal is becoming increasingly clear. Under the leadership of Engr. David Umahi, Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Works has emerged as one of the most credible drivers of large-scale infrastructure delivery on the continent. At a time when many emerging economies struggle with stalled projects, uneven regional investment, and execution risk, Nigeria is demonstrating a renewed capacity for coordinated, nationwide infrastructure development. What distinguishes the current moment is balance. Federal road and bridge projects are active across all six geopolitical zones and in every state of the federation. This geographic spread is not incidental; it reflects a deliberate strategy of inclusion and national integration. Importantly for investors and partners, it has eliminated the familiar narrative of regional marginalisation that often complicates project continuity and political risk. Infrastructure delivery has become nationally owned, broadly supported, and politically stabilising. At the centre of this shift is Umahi’s technocratic leadership. A trained engineer, he has approached public works through the lens of design integrity, lifecycle durability, and climate resilience. The Ministry’s emphasis has moved decisively away from short-term visibility toward long-term value an orientation that aligns closely with the priorities of development finance institutions, private investors, and multilateral partners. President @officialABAT’s confidence in Umahi has been a critical enabler. That confidence translated into political backing to audit inherited contracts, restructure failing arrangements, and re-prioritise projects based on economic relevance rather than sunk cost alone. For partners accustomed to governance environments where legacy constraints impede reform, this willingness to reset assumptions is a notable departure. Flagship projects such as the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway illustrate this new philosophy. Conceived not merely as a transport corridor but as economic infrastructure, the project integrates trade facilitation, regional connectivity, and climate considerations. Similar discipline now defines work on legacy corridors including the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Road, the East–West Road, and strategic bridges that link production zones to markets and ports. Equally important is the Ministry’s approach to fiscal realism. In an era of constrained public finances, Nigeria’s infrastructure push has been underpinned by contract rationalisation, project segmentation, and value engineering. These tools are being used not to defer delivery, but to ensure sustainability and bankability key considerations for private capital and blended finance structures. Execution credibility has also improved markedly. Umahi’s insistence on rigorous site supervision and real-time accountability has strengthened project governance. Contractors are held to clear standards, timelines are actively monitored, and design adjustments are made early rather than after failure. This hands-on oversight reduces execution risk and enhances confidence among external partners.

Ogun Needs an “Ogun Citizenry”: Why a Shared Civic Identity Is Urgent for a Gateway State Ogun is no longer just a collection of historic towns; it is a gateway state and an economic extension of Nigeria’s largest urban corridor. With millions of residents spread across Abeokuta, Ijebu, Remo, Yewa, Awori, Ota, Sagamu, and the fast-growing Lagos–Ogun industrial axis, Ogun can no longer be governed, imagined, or sustained through narrow sub-ethnic lenses. A modern, rapidly urbanizing state cannot function as a patchwork of sectional identities. This is why Ogun must deliberately cultivate a shared civic identity an “Ogun Citizenry” made up of all who live, work, pay taxes, raise families, and invest their futures in the state. Why Sectional Thinking Is Inadequate for a Modern State Sub-ethnic identity in Ogun Egba, Ijebu, Remo, Yewa, and Awori is rooted in ancestry and history. States, however, are built on residency, contribution, and shared destiny. California is not governed as a Spanish colony. Gauteng is not run as a single ethnic homeland. Lagos’ growth has spilled across borders, and Ogun now hosts industries, workers, and families from every part of Nigeria and beyond. Great political entities survive by transcending origin and embracing belonging. In Ogun, the persistent framing of politics, development, and opportunity through sectional competition is increasingly incompatible with: • its industrial expansion, • its demographic transformation, • and its strategic role as Nigeria’s manufacturing and logistics backbone. Sectionalism in a growth state does not preserve heritage; it fragments progress. The Case for an “Ogun Citizenry” An Ogun civic identity would not erase Egba, Ijebu, Remo, Yewa, or Awori heritage. On the contrary, it would elevate them by transforming Ogun culture from a set of competing origins into a shared civic inheritance. Belonging in Ogun should be based on: • residency, • contribution to the state’s economy and society, • respect for its laws and institutions, • and commitment to its long-term future. This is how modern states build cohesion. The “My Ogun” Campaign: From Residence to Ownership To foster this shared identity, Ogun needs a deliberate, state-backed civic initiative a My Ogun campaign designed to move residents from coexistence to ownership. A successful My Ogun campaign should include: 1. Civic Messaging Promote Ogun as a shared home, not a collection of rival territories. “My Ogun” should mean I belong here, and I am responsible for this state. 2. Inclusive Symbols Develop non-sectional civic symbols flags, slogans, public art that represent Ogun as a collective project, not a sub-ethnic trophy. 3. Civic Education Teach Ogun history as a story of convergence: ancient kingdoms, colonial encounters, post-independence industry, and today’s manufacturing and residential boom. 4. Recognition of Contributors Celebrate Ogun citizens by contribution, not origin farmers, factory workers, teachers, traders, artisans, engineers, civil servants, and entrepreneurs. 5. Language of Unity Normalize the term “Ogun Citizen” as a civic identity, just as “Texan” or “Gautenger” transcends ancestry. Indigenous Heritage and Civic Inclusion Can Coexist Acknowledging the indigenous histories of Ogun’s peoples is fully compatible with building an inclusive civic identity. Heritage should be preserved, not politicized as a gatekeeping tool. Belonging in a state should not be a zero-sum contest between “sons of the soil” and “newcomers.” States that fall into that trap lose investment, talent, and trust. Why This Matters Now Ogun stands at a critical juncture: • Population pressure is rising, • Urban sprawl is accelerating, • Economic inequality is becoming more visible, • Political rhetoric risks hardening along sectional lines.

SEYI MAKINDE @ 58 Happy Birthday, Engr. @seyimakinde. As you mark your 58th birthday and gradually enter the final phase of your tenure, it is an appropriate moment for reflection on the journey that brought you to the saddle as Governor of Oyo State. On governance, fairness demands honesty. You have recorded notable achievements, particularly in the transformation of Oyo State, with Ibadan standing as the most visible beneficiary of your developmental interventions. Anyone familiar with what Ibadan once was can clearly appreciate how far the city has come under your leadership. For this, you deserve commendation, and I wish you the grace to finish strong. That said, leadership is a balance of governance and politics. While your developmental record is strong, it is difficult to ignore the concerns around your political management. You have, unfortunately, appeared careless in managing relationships with those who stood firmly behind the administration that brought you to office. The estrangement of close allies most notably members of the so-called “Gang of Five” has carried consequences not just for individuals, but for the broader health and cohesion of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The failure to sustain collective discipline and unity after 2023 has weakened the party’s ability to present a coherent leadership direction ahead of 2027. The paradox remains striking: a governor widely acknowledged for competence in development, yet markedly less attentive to the demands of inclusive and strategic political management. The notion that a complex party in a complex country can be driven by the energy of one individual alone what I describe as a “G-1” approach risks isolating allies and undermining institutional strength. As you begin to wind down, there remains time to heal old wounds and repair political bridges. I encourage reconciliation with those who have legitimate grievances those who feel mistreated, sidelined, or abandoned. Politics, like life, has a way of returning what we put into it. What goes around, indeed, comes around. My brother whom I fondly call Star Boy may your star shine even brighter in the years ahead. Happy birthday once again, and congratulations to your family, especially your wife, the First Lady. Many happy returns. Otunba Segun Showunmi The Alternative

Thank You Message from the Alternative Movement The Alternative Movement, a pan-Nigeria political organization committed to African unity, peace, and democratic cooperation, extends its sincere appreciation to the Government and people of Burkina Faso, and to the Armed Forces under the leadership of @CapitaineIb226, for the release of the Nigerian military aircraft and the eleven Nigerian soldiers. We also acknowledge the strategic restraint, diplomatic brinkmanship, and statesmanship demonstrated by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, @officialABAT (GCFR) whose commitment to dialogue over escalation created the necessary space for a peaceful and dignified resolution. This approach underscores the importance of calm leadership and diplomacy in managing sensitive inter-state matters. The Alternative Movement further recognizes the role played by the Nigerian delegation led by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, whose engagement reaffirmed the value of mutual respect and open communication between brotherly African nations. This development reinforces the enduring principles of African brotherhood, solidarity, and mutual understanding. At a time when unity among African states is both necessary and urgent, this outcome serves as a reminder that cooperation and respect for sovereignty remain essential to regional peace and stability. We remain hopeful that this episode will strengthen relations between Nigeria and Burkina Faso and contribute to deeper collaboration anchored in trust, fraternity, and a shared commitment to Africa’s collective progress. Fact check: There is no secondary school in Switzerland with fees of $1-5 million. Day secondary schools typically cost $22,000–$44,000 per year. Elite boarding schools cost about $73,000–$146,000 per year. Even over 6 years, total fees would still be well below the $1.25 million allegedly claimed by Aliko Dangote.
