@Andrewnsnyder Interested in your take. It’s on my to-read list this year.
English

I also got a dude version from Etsy for my son

Kitchen Marm@quachelsey
My daughters have never seen a Polly Pocket before. When I bring these out during our upcoming plane ride it's going to blow their minds
English

@underbrightwing I'm not that lady, but there are several in my church. I barely read, but they show me their movies and stuff, and then i make clothes for myself or try some recipes inspired by all that. Symbiotic relationship or something
English

@BMcGrewvy @amjuster @jennifereeser @MrsKatyCarl Yes, valuable point. I don’t want to downplay those friendships at all! Just every now and then it’d be really nice to ‘talk shop’ or nerd out with people who understand. My husband does a pretty good job, but I imagine sometimes he could use a break. 😅
English

I will say I do think you can find satisfying friendship with women who even if they aren't precisely "like you" in the sense of sharing all your nerdy special interests, being up on all the same things you're up on etc., are still like-minded and intelligent. That describes a couple women geographically closer to me.
English

@MichaelFKane Absolutely makes sense! Glad you get a kid-free day together!
English

@underbrightwing Just my wife! The kids will be with grandparents. They are young enough that they would consume 100% of my wife's time and no one would have fun at a book table lol.
English

I have to add, I am immensely blessed to be in a church positively FULL of faithful women who hold high the Word of God and take seriously the study of it.
I don’t at all want to downplay that. I understand it’s an uncommon richness.
My other concerns do pale in comparison.

Females of the conservative/Christian bookish/artsy X: do you know people like you in real life? My husband has been blessed by meeting multiple like-minded creatives/thinkers nearby. But I’ve struggled to find likeminded women (in this regard) in person.
English

@BMcGrewvy @amjuster @jennifereeser @MrsKatyCarl I do have a few dear friends like this but they are a couple hours away and I only see them every month or two, and even that’s hard to make happen.
English

@amjuster @underbrightwing @jennifereeser @MrsKatyCarl It depends on what you mean by "know." Easier to come up with women I've *met* IRL but mostly interact with long-distance.
English

@millysayseh Yeah… too many people who like reading or have book clubs want to read books I have zero interest in touching. I’m really not trying to be a snob. I just have limited time to read and way too many other books I’d rather read…
English

I find it important in some circles to *not* divulge my interests, as I will then be funneled towards crafting groups or book clubs for things I would never read. This means I am a bit of a snob, but it also means I can enjoy hanging out with people in other ways without being constantly hit in the face with my own snobbish reflexes.
English

@ChickenLadyFA Yay for the internet bringing together!
English

@underbrightwing YES! We were internet friends first, and then we met IRL!! Now, we chat, zoom, text, send goofy stuff thru snail mail.... and it took yearsss to find my tribe.
English

@BCarpenterBooks @underbrightwing Right. I wouldn't know that quietly creative person necessarily if they were right beside me.
English

@MichaelFKane @MichaelFKane I’m glad Sam found you! I hear we might meet your wife and family on Saturday?!
English

@underbrightwing Just wanted to say it's tough for creative guys too. I know musicians, but until Sam reached out to me I had no one that wasn't an online friend that shared my writing creative interests.
English

@MichaelFKane @underbrightwing There seems to be an interesting natural mathematical formula I've observed. The distance of a person I know is directly related to how cool they are. The cooler the person, the further away they live.
English

@also_psyche This is a great point! Thanks for that reminder.
English

@underbrightwing Even so I find I am the Nerdiest of the Nerds and am learning that not every friendship needs to fulfill every need. I have long-distance (mostly male) friends to geek out about Neoplatonism with and I have in-person female friends to thrift & cook with.
English

@johnnyb3 @jacqueboatman Screens certainly contribute. The busyness culture doesn’t help. I’m around a lot of home schooling moms so, women tend to have a ton on their plate regardless.
And while I love the church I’m in, it’s not in the artistic tradition.
English

@jacqueboatman @underbrightwing very sad. if u had to guess why is that these days? something to do with education culture or worse?
English

@underbrightwing Like writing a book, when you think about it.
English

Something in this sparked a profound thought:
Water will seek the most efficient path & yet will still look like this.
Efficiency can look like meandering. Winding. Redirecting. Circling around. Exploring. Soaking in your surroundings. Observing & moving on. Taking your time.

@screenwriter87 That’s awesome! How providential!
Nice to meet you!
English

@underbrightwing Yep! We were online writing camp friends first, but then we found out we live only ten minutes from each other. What are the odds?!! So we get together often now. And of course, we still hang out online.
Nice to meet you!
English

@EmmaRSotomayor This is a great idea! Thanks for sharing. So glad you have this 💜
English

@underbrightwing I do and I have a great community of women who craft together and most of us are good readers, but I’m also single and all my friends but one are single (or at least still courting a fella rather than married) so we have more time on our hands.
English

@m_anthonyharris Thanks! Unfortunately quite a ways from CO.
English

@underbrightwing If you're in Colorado, I know some ladies who are authors and could introduce you to them.
English

Not Christian ones necessarily. I always find a few like minded women with diverse interests. Like one I just met who does fiber arts.
They are all liberal for the most part but I just concentrate on the craftsmanship part.
Go to arts and crafts fairs. Seriously. People who have booths are usually really into their craft. And eager to share.
