TECH VS MEDIA What actually happened is that tech got negative coverage after it negatively affected those producing the coverage. Here’s the sequence of events. 1) 2000-2008: tech and media ignored each other. Tech thought content was a dead end after Terry Semel[1], so they focused on the hard task of building pipes and just let users supply content[2]. Media though tech was a dead end after dotcom crash, so they focused on blowing up Iraq. 2) 2008-2012: tech soared and took ~$50B in media revenue after the financial crisis 3) 2013: media needed tech to re-elect Obama[3], but then after the 2012 election they brought the knives out 4) 2013-2020: seven years of techlash from the media, to demonize the sector that was disrupting them and colonize it with establishment-sympathetic figures 5) 2021: pyrrhic victory, with the establishment capturing Google and big tech at the expense of spending down their trust[4], alienating founders and investors of the next generation, and losing their best writers like @ggreenwald and @mtaibbi 6) 2022: return of the founder, with Elon, Jack, Zuck and others asserting themselves in different ways. Tech also built and scaled its own media outlets over this time period, particular on podcasts and Twitter where legacy wasn’t as strong 7) 2023+: the combination of generative AI, decentralized social media, a billion Indians coming online, and more means legacy media is finished, so battleground is moving to the legacy financial system TLDR: tech wrecked the business model of legacy media, and thus started receiving negative coverage. Claude Code: no evals [well known code agent company]: no evals [well known code agent company 2]: kinda halfassed evals [leading vibe coding company]: no evals [ceo of company selling you evals]: mmmmm yess all my top customers do evals, you should do evals [vc's in love with ceo of evals company]: mmmmm yes all my top founders do evals, must do evals (NOTE: i -do- also think that evals are impt, but the eval pilled ai engineers have also noticed that it is not a strict requirement for success and, at least for 0-to-1 stage, may even be anticorrelated, think thru why)

.@OpenAI CEO Sam Altman: "Thank you for being such a pro-business, pro-innovation President. It's a very refreshing change...The investment that's happening here, the ability to get the power of the industry back... I don't think that would be happening without your leadership."

Twitter me deja subir vídeos más largos así que pongo éste de cuando me pusieron contra la espada y la pared ante mis 15 viewers preguntándome si fue decepcionante mi experiencia en el Congreso. Siete años después era hora de sincerarse.

I started reading the 120 page Claude 4 System Card and found myself unable to put it down. If you're in the mood for some excellent science fiction (or you miss Person of Interest on CBS) I cannot recommend it enough. I made detailed notes here: simonwillison.net/2025/May/25/cl…

Feels like 50% of SEO is BS, most of the SEO ppl optimize your site/content and when traffic goes up, they claim its all related to them. But if traffic goes down, they blame seasonality, trend dying or your website is buggy.
