We are thrilled to inaugurate Global Public Health Week 2026 as the University of Rwanda – College of Medicine and health sciences becomes the focal point for academic excellence and strategic health discourse. In a high-level convergence of academia, researchers, and global health practitioners, #URPHSA facilitated a seminal panel discussion analyzing the critical nexus of Health, Peace, and Sustainable Development in Rwanda. The session was catalyzed by a powerful opening from Prof. Nyirazinyoye Laetitia (Chair, @RPHA_Official) and a compelling call to action from Dr. Brian Chirombo (@WHORwanda Representative) on the imperative of #PeaceForHealth as a cornerstone of resilient societies. Our profound gratitude to our distinguished guests from @WHORwanda , @unicefrw, the School of Public Health, and the Mental Health Center, for their commitment to fostering these essential multi-sectoral synergies. Innovation must meet reality where the need is greatest. We had the opportunity to engage with the SONA Global team and explore Vātara; an ultra-low-cost, portable vacuum suction device designed to support negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) and uterine suction tamponade in low-resource settings. In contexts where timely access to life-saving interventions remains a challenge, practical innovations like Vātara have the potential to strengthen care delivery and improve maternal and surgical outcomes.
