Welcome home, CGC Munro! After a historic 119-day, 26,000-mile patrol, the Munro’s crew returned to Alameda, California following the single largest maritime drug seizure in 18 years. Through Operation Pacific Viper, they interdicted over 22,000 lbs of cocaine worth an estimated $250M, a record for our HITRON teams that keeps drugs off our streets. Spearheading the nation’s efforts to interdict dark fleet oil tankers, CGC Munro’s shadowed the Motor Tanker Bella 1 across the Atlantic, culminating in the vessel’s seizure. Defending America through Operation Pacific Viper.  The crew of #USCG Cutter Forward, with an embarked Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron (HITRON) team, interdicted a drug-smuggling self-propelled semi-submersible (SPSS) in the Eastern Pacific. Though the SPSS sank after its four crew were apprehended, this interdiction prevented an estimated 17,600 pounds of cocaine – more than 6 million potentially lethal doses – from reaching our shores.  Bravo Zulu to Cutter Forward and HITRON crews, who continue our operations to counter narco-terrorists and secure U.S. borders and maritime approaches.  Read more from @USCGSouthwest here: bit.ly/4sDjTgV

Crisis leadership at its most urgent. As America’s maritime first responder, the Coast Guard is Always Ready for the call. On Tuesday morning, when a barge caught fire on Delaware Bay, our men and women from Coast Guard Cutter Sector Delaware Bay responded – working with local emergency responders and partner agencies to establish a safety zone, issue a Broadcast Notice to Mariners, and mitigate the risks additional fires. Another major drug bust through Operation Pacific Viper. The crew of #USCG Cutter Tampa interdicted a go-fast vessel deep in the Eastern Pacific, seizing 1,925 kilograms of cocaine worth an estimated $31.9M. Since launching Operation Pacific Viper in early August, we’ve interdicted over 200K lbs of cocaine. As significant transport of illicit narcotics continues from South and Central America, our maritime fighting force remains focused on countering narco-terrorism and protecting the homeland. #SemperParatus

The future CGC Samuel Wilson is named for a legacy of heroism at sea. Chief Petty Officer Samuel Wilson, a boatswain’s mate, was awarded the Coast Guard Medal of Extraordinary Heroism in 1979 during the rescue of 81 crew members from the Japanese Fishing Vessel Ryuyo Maru No.2 that ran aground on St. Paul Island, Alaska.

The future CGC Fred Permenter will carry on a legacy of vigilance. Chief Petty Officer Fred Permenter, a boatswain’s mate, was awarded the Gold Lifesaving Medal in 1952 following the rescue of four crew members when St. George’s Reef Light Station’s motor launch capsized as it was lowered in heavy seas.

On Friday, we proudly authenticated the keels for the first three cutters in the Coast Guard’s new "Chief's Class" of Waterways Commerce Cutters: the future CGC Allen Thiele, CGC Fred Permenter and CGC Samuel Wilson. These cutters are vital for maintaining the Marine Transportation System, which supports over $5.4 trillion in economic activity. The Coast Guard mourns the passing, and honors the courage, of Aviation Survival Technician (AST) Tyler Jaggers. On February 27, he was critically injured during a medical evacuation mission offshore from Cape Flattery, Washington, and later succumbed to his injuries and passed away at Madigan Army Medical Center. 
 Prior to his passing, he was meritoriously advanced to AST2 for his relentless drive in qualifications, the mentorship he consistently provided to swimmer candidates, and his exceptional performance across operational missions. Additionally, the Commandant of the Coast Guard awarded him the Distinguished Flying Cross – one of our Nation’s highest awards for heroism in aerial flight. 
 Through his selfless service and sacrifice, AST2 Jaggers exemplified the finest legacies of Coast Guard service, and the sacred oath of the Aviation Rescue Swimmer community: "So Others May Live".   #USCG #SoOthersMayLive @DHSgov @USCGPACAREA @USCGNorthwest

Today's announcement is further proof that this is the most exciting time to join the Coast Guard in 235 years. Thanks to President Trump's visionary leadership and historic investment in the Coast Guard, the Service is shattering records across the board—including in recruitment. Last year’s recruitment exceeded 110% of active-duty enlisted goals, and the Coast Guard is on track to add 15,000 new members by 2028.
