Chelsea have parted company with head coach Liam Rosenior after a damaging run of form. Rosenior took over in January on a deal until June 2032 but leaves fewer than four months later. Although the club did not intend to review his position until much further down the line, a decline in results have dictated otherwise. Chelsea have named Calum McFarlane as interim coach until the end of the season, when there will be a stronger market for permanent solutions and a fifth full-time boss under their current ownership group. Everton previously rejected overtures from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur for Jarrad Branthwaite. They signed the centre-back to a much-improved long-term deal last summer. The 23-year-old is now one of Everton’s highest paid players, but this season has made just 10 Premier League appearances, seven of those starts. His latest injury is a huge blow to the club's European hopes and ended any chance of the defender going to the World Cup with England. But there is more optimism now about his prospects of returning for pre-season, provided he encounters no setbacks during his rehabilitation. Surgery, the club confirmed, is not needed this time. The focus now will almost certainly be on getting to the bottom of what is going wrong and why. There are unlikely to be any easy answers. 📝 @Paddy_Boyland 🔗 nytimes.com/athletic/72183…

Estevao’s participation at the World Cup with Brazil is in serious doubt due to the hamstring injury the Chelsea forward suffered during Saturday’s defeat by Manchester United. Sources briefed on the injury say that Estevao has suffered a grade four hamstring injury, which would mean the 18-year-old is highly unlikely to feature at the World Cup. The tournament begins on June 11, with Brazil’s opening game against Morocco two days later. Full story from @MarioCortegana, @SebSB and @liam_twomey ⬇️ 🔗 nytimes.com/athletic/72183…
