#Thread on the lesser-known women (mostly from the tribal areas) of #Odisha who have made a difference in the society through their work. Though I have limited information about them, anyone having more inputs on these #Agraganyas, can enlighten 🙂

Met someone from this ministry recently, a close friend and an extremely intelligent person (I'm glad he is in this ministry) and he told me a very interesting story about renewables. India might have deployed several Gigawatts of renewables capacity in the past couple of years but the huge problem is on 'evacuating' that power. He explained that it often could take two-three years to build the transmission lines from mega solar or wind projects whereas the project itself can be executed within months. The Spanish blackout from last year is being closely studied in India and is a cautionary tale on renewables dependance without infrastructure buildout, especially digital inverters. Turbine power is 'analog' whereas solar power is digital and making the twain meet is, well, not easy. As demand rockets up, these will be challenges that the ministry, grid operators and power generators will face. Because you have to really keep in mind that the electrical grid is a 'living, breathing machine'. You put on a switch and well, you expect it to work, but that means that somewhere, a turbine spins at a fraction of a percent faster. And it is all instantaneous. Remarkable really.

The case was transferred to CBI soon after the first set of arrests #CBI yday moved to court seeking release of Raj Singh, calling it a wrong arrest. Court accepted the plea & ordered Singh’s release Raj’s family had maintained that he was in UP when the incident happened. Raj identifies himself as state general secretary of All India Kshatriya Mahasabha. He has access to leaders in UP. It’s been over 2 weeks and still no clarity who killed Chandranath Rath and what was the motive.

Clicked these thermal images during an auto ride today in Delhi. The ambient temperature today was 43 degrees celsius today but thermal images of different surfaces both within and outside the auto was reached upto 60 degrees celsius. We seriously underestimate what extreme heat does to the human body. We should start asking who is responsible for this rising heat and are those more vulnerable and exposed to extreme heat responsible for rising heat.

A sad news has come from Kanha Tiger Reserve today. Mahavir Male, who was the cub of MV-3, has died. His brother, Veer Singh, is still ruling the jungle. Both brothers were born in late 2022. Mahavir Male had a fight with Digdola Male on 4th May. In that fight, Digdola Male died on the spot, while Mahavir was seriously injured. Patrolling teams made extensive efforts to locate him, but the tiger could not be found. Today, during intensive patrolling in the Kisli core area, the body of the tiger was recovered. Dowry killings didn't disappear. They just got educated. Earlier it was kerosene and a matchstick 'gas leak ho gaya, cooker fat gaya' and the case would close before the body turned cold. I have seen this in my own circle in Bihar. MILs executing it with such cold precision, no trembling hands, no guilt, no tears that meant anything. It was a system. It ran smoothly. Now those same women are educated, English speaking, socially presentable and the weapon has upgraded too. Now it's 'she was schizophrenic.' Now it's 'she had a drug problem.' You would be SHOCKED to learn how many in-laws forcefully bring their daughter in-laws to psychiatry OPD to get them diagnosed with one or the other thing, and more often than not- the daughter in-laws do NOT have any diagnosable mental illness. Twice this has happened- that the law has followed up for documents of said daughter in-laws after their demise- as the in-laws suggested she was mentally ill. (When infact- she was distressed due to THEM). Make of it what you want to. 👍

Parties like #DMK and #AIADMK have traditionally relied on structured communication formats: party statements, press conferences, newspaper coverage, and amplification through satellite television. #TVK, however, appears to be engaging through algorithms and feeds, a format of political communication that perhaps only the #BJP has successfully mastered at a national scale. A similar algorithmic disruption was seen during the rise of PM #Modi in 2014, when the Congress was caught off guard by the speed and scale of digital mobilisation. Even today, the Congress is still trying to fully adapt to that ecosystem. The #DMK now appears to find itself facing a comparable challenge, though it also has politically aware strategists who are likely studying this shift closely. Algorithms are not captured merely through paid promotion. They are disrupted through highly coordinated organic amplification, massive fan participation, platform-savvy editing, and relentless repost ecosystems. By the time rivals verify a narrative, engage with it, hold a press meet, and communicate a response, the internet ecosystem has already moved into the next disruptive cycle. Traditional parties still largely operate in news cycles, where press releases are amplified through television debates and newspaper reports. TVK, on the other hand, appears to be operating in engagement cycles across X and Instagram. Earlier, political communication followed a slower and more structured chain: a party statement, television debates, newspaper coverage, and then public reaction. But the current digital ecosystem functions differently. A viral moment is instantly adapted into memes and short edits, emotionally amplified across platforms, and transformed into identity signalling before the next viral cycle even begins. The lifespan of political narratives has compressed dramatically. TVK additionally benefits from Vijay’s cinema grammar, which naturally translates well to short-video platforms. Dramatic pauses, recognisable visuals, crowd shots, emotional music edits, hero-entry framing, and punchline-style dialogue delivery are all formats that perform strongly within reels and recommendation algorithms. So the real disruption may not simply be that TVK uses social media heavily. Many parties do that today. The disruption is that the party appears to understand that attention now moves faster than institutional politics and traditional communication.

The public disclosure of abortion and alleged schizophrenia is not neutral information sharing. It is actively setting a narrative around the victim. In cases of DV, the focus often shifts away from violence n accountability towards the woman’s character and morality.
