We built a a self-dividing synthetic cell ! Check out this #CDlab preprint on BioRxiv: biorxiv.org/content/10.648… Great work by Charu Sharma who encoded dynaminA in a genome and expressed that in liposomes that then divide into daughter cells! Collaboration with Koenderink lab!

A wonderful early morning trek to the KenjalGadh fort in Bhor. The monsoons causing the western ghats to turn a green coat. Kenjalgad, also known as Ghera Khelanja, features a striking basalt rock mesa cap rising 30–40 feet above an irregular hill in the Sahyadri ranges. The unique, rhomboid-shaped fortress is built into the volcanic scarp. These treks are truly something to look forward to that I am thankful students in the lab are equally excited to plan and go to. If you are around Pune and Mumbai this time of the year consider getting out. The weekends can get crowded at many of these first so weekday treks are always better. @IISERPune

Excited to share that I'll be starting my MS Thesis at @BDR_RIKEN under the supervision of @TatsuoShibata25 in the @LabPHB. I'll be working at the intersection of physics and biology, broadly in the area of active matter physics. Really looking forward to the days ahead in Kobe!

Professor M. Radhakrishna Pillai, Former Director, BRIC-RGCB, visited us yesterday (15-06-2026). This was the first visit since his retirement as director in August 2020. He delivered a talk to the RGCB fraternity, explaining the challenges he faced during his directorship, which transformed RGCB from a state-level institution into an acclaimed national institute of biotechnology.
