It is special for the authors of these related AXL-Golgi studies to have their work featured on the cover for both. Congrats @ArnavSaha19, Prachi, @Tush96rkhane ! Thanks @BiologyOpen and @J_Cell_Sci Thanks @ANRFIndia and @IISERPune

The AXL-Golgi story... has two parts, both of which are now published. 1) AXL receptor tyrosine kinase regulates Golgi organization and function via an adhesion-Arf1 signaling axis in breast and lung cancer cell lines tinyurl.com/AXLGolgi1 @BiologyOpen 2) Differential AXL expression and Arf1 regulation control stiffness-dependent Golgi organization in breast cancer cells tinyurl.com/AXLGolgi2 @J_Cell_Sci Together, they make for a comprehensive story identifying the role of AXL in controlling Golgi organization and its regulation by mechanosensory cues (matrix stiffness). Work started as a simple screen by Prachi to pick AXL as a gene of interest, taken forward by @ArnavSaha19 and @Tush96rkhane. Supported ably by many others. It's also nice to be able to use data from Vibhas's @SVibha1 studies in this paper, as she identified the adhesion-Golgi connection many years ago. Congratulations to all involved in this study, which was challenging and exciting in equal measure.

NO ADULTERATION, STRAIGHT FROM THE ❤️ There are some sensible ppl who have kept this Protest Alive & Meaningful. This 5 minutes video will change your life, the way you think, your perspective towards Young India , "When I woke up in my hut this morning and checked my phone, it felt as though this govt had resorted to complete authoritarianism." as he spoke Honesty n Sincerity reflected on his face." "In a democratic System, Not Arrogance but Dialogue must be the way, whose doors open on both the Sides, like UPA did with Anna, Indira ji did with Sonam's Father & Britishers did with Mahatma." "There is a word in the Constitutional Oath "Garima (Self-respect), One's Dignity, Dignity, A person's dignity should not be compromised Sir." he was filled with Anguish. "What were they asking for, 200 yards of flat in Lutyens Delhi ? An MP seat or a Ministry in Modi's Cabinet..? They're just asking for accountability, asking to Fix the crumbling education system, with responsibility." his voice trembles as he spoke. ----------------------------------- I was completely shattered while writing this, listening to him tears flow from my eyes as I write this with a heavy heart. ----------------------------------- "In a democracy, holding a dissenting view is not a crime; it is a fundamental right granted to us by the Indian Constitution." If this student's story fails to touch you, fails to shake you to your very core, then something is missing within you; something inside you has died: your humanity, your conscience.

This is batshit crazy! If the GOI follows up on madam's story, then henceforth the government will encourage exam paper leaks so that students take advantage of the leak and work harder for the re-exam! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
Economic Times@EconomicTimes

#WATCH | Delhi: On the Cockroach Janta Party protest, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman says, "... If this response is not come from the government of making sure the arrests are done in time re-exam happen on time and on time post the incident, an announcement of the results and young people are now finding the institutions where they have to go for the higher education. All this is happening and there are young people who are coming out and saying yes, first it sort of hurt me when the paper leakages happened but later I took advantage of that and prepared even more and my performance has improved and I've done well. So there are people who looked at it, even young people who have taken this challenge and faced this, and come out bright in bright colors. So with all this, the government is responding, PM is responding..." 🪳✊ #CockroachJantaParty Protest #Live Updates ➠ ow.ly/jzWM50ZrAF6 📋

A wonderful early morning trek to the KenjalGadh fort in Bhor. The monsoons causing the western ghats to turn a green coat. Kenjalgad, also known as Ghera Khelanja, features a striking basalt rock mesa cap rising 30–40 feet above an irregular hill in the Sahyadri ranges. The unique, rhomboid-shaped fortress is built into the volcanic scarp. These treks are truly something to look forward to that I am thankful students in the lab are equally excited to plan and go to. If you are around Pune and Mumbai this time of the year consider getting out. The weekends can get crowded at many of these first so weekday treks are always better. @IISERPune

Virunga National Park is pleased to announce a new birth in the Humba family. The female Bonane has been observed carrying her newborn, a male infant. With this birth, the Humba family now numbers 21 individuals. This is the eleventh birth recorded in 2026 amongst the Park's habituated mountain gorilla groups. Together, these births reflect an encouraging reproductive dynamic within the population and the long-term commitment of the Park's field teams to their protection and monitoring. We extend our sincere gratitude to the European Union, UNESCO, and the supporters of our Adopt a Gorilla programme for their continued support of mountain gorilla conservation in Virunga National Park. @EU_Partnerships @UEenRDC @UNESCO 📸 Virunga National Park

The next Pune Knowledge on Tap will be on Thursday, 23 July, with Prof. Sutirth Dey, on "Being creative in the era of AI" @SutirthDey *Abstract*: Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) is now capable of producing artifacts like poems, essays, paintings, scientific hypotheses and informed critiques. In many cases, the quality of these artifacts is such that it is difficult to tell the difference between human and AI generated outputs. What does this imply for the poets, writers, painters, scientists etc? Should they just migrate to jobs that do not involve competing against Gen AI? Should you bother about this issue if you have not thought of yourself as a creative person and your work hardly requires more of you than a tidy powerpoint presentation? These questions do not have generally accepted answers and I do not claim that I am any better. I will simply present my own biased / opinionated thoughts and try to send you home with your own. *About the Speaker*: *_Sutirth Dey_* is a Professor of Biology at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune. He works in the field of ecology and evolution. For the last three years, he has been interested in Artificial Intelligence and trying to contemplate its impact on research, teaching, and society in general. IIT Bombay is happy to announce the publication of Mudrākṣaravidyā: Siddhānta Āṇi Vyavahār, authored by Prof. Girish Dalvi, IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay. Written in Marathi, the 350-page volume presents a comprehensive introduction to typography with a focus on Devanāgarī, covering its evolution from metal type to digital fonts, the history of printing, typesetting, and letterform design. Published with the support of the Rajya Marathi Vikas Sanstha, Government of Maharashtra, the book is a significant contribution to the documentation and study of Devanāgarī typography. Its six chapters trace the journey from metal type to digital fonts and cover the Devanāgarī script, the history of printing, letterform anatomy and classification, typesetting, and the debates around type. The last major work on this subject was Bapurao Naik's magnum opus, the three volume Typography of Devanagari. rmvs.marathi.gov.in idc.iitb.ac.in/~girish/book/
