Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Agriculture and Rural Development, Vuyiswa Ramokgopa, today engaged stakeholders and the community at the Vaal Special Economic Zone (SEZ) public participation session. Speaking at the engagement, the MEC emphasised that the Vaal SEZ represents a bold step towards building a more inclusive, industrialised, and growing Gauteng economy. She highlighted that through the Vaal SEZ, the government is driving a coordinated development approach that brings together all spheres of government, unlocks investment, and ensures accountability and long-term sustainability. The MEC further underscored that economic growth must translate into jobs, industrial development must create real opportunities, and investment must result in meaningful participation for the people of the Vaal. She noted that the Vaal SEZ is a key instrument in advancing the Gauteng City-Region Economic Growth and Development Plan 2030, transforming investment momentum into industrial development, job creation, and inclusive growth. Have a say on the Amendment of the Gauteng Township Economic Development Amendment Bill, 2023. The Bill amends the 2022 Act to align with policy intentions and correct previous shortcomings. It seeks to promote inclusive economic growth, especially in deprived township areas. It also introduces clearer definitions and expands the scope of township economic development.
