For me the smarter play isn’t a pure stopper, it’s a versatile lefty who covers 2 problems at once.
Van de Ven is the obvious one, rapid, plays CB and LB, perfect for a high line.
Even better fit for Iraola than Bastoni honestly, VdV's recovery pace is exactly what an aggressive line needs.

We seemingly have no plans to buy into the back four this summer.
VVD and Gomez as seniors, Jacquet in, Leoni back from injury, plus Ndukwe, Ndiaye and Nallo coming through. Kerkez owns the left, Frimpong and Bradley on the right, Kostas back from loan as cover.
Looks fine on paper. But Jacquet and Leoni haven’t played a single PL minute. Gomez can’t stay fit. Bradley can’t stay fit. Frimpong’s a converted wing-back, not a natural RB. Kostas? You tell me.
The danger isn’t October buy it's in the 2nd half of season, when injuries pile up and we’re asking a 20yo with zero top-flight minutes to defend week in/week out.
Depth on paper and depth under pressure are 2 different things.... :)

Wdyt guys? Apa Fede bakal dapet minutes/tempat under Iraola? Gue skeptis. Pola yang udah-udah, pemain yang gak kepake di 1 manager biasanya gak kepake juga di manager berikutnya. Fede masalahnya di fitness. Abis cedera ACL di Juve, dia gak pernah balik ke level di mana dia bisa main intens 20+ game semusim. Then soal profile taktis. Iraola butuh winger yang rajin defend, track back, pressing trigger. Chiesa lebih ke attacking outlet, bukan two-way winger. Di Juve pun dia jarang dituntut kerja defensif. Terus soal umur dan trajectory. Dia bukan lagi pemain muda yang bisa lo kasih waktu 1-2 seasons buat berkembang ataupun kasi immdiate impact kalo start dari awal game. Last but not least, jelas faktor ekonomi/efisiensi. LFC butuh trim squad dan generate funds buat rebuild. Fede paling logis buat dijual karena gajinya gak sebanding sama kontribusinya. Jadi buat gue, jual Fede.

I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that. Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies. That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it. Winning some games here and there is not what Liverpool should be about. All teams win games. Liverpool will always be a club that means a great deal to me and to my family. I want to see it succeed for long after I have moved on. As I’ve always said, qualifying to next season’s Champions League is the bare minimum and I will do everything I can to make that happen.
