@badlogicgames Thank you for pi. Was reluctant at first because of Anthropic limitations, but switched to OpenAI and started using pi. A lot of useful things that it unlocked but the most important was the speeeeeed.

@GamersNexus Interesting point. Never thought of it that way but unfortunately it makes sense. Ugh, new thing to wrap my head around.

No particular point here, just some general thoughts about AI surveillance in a real-world application: Tannen (on the camera) and I recently went to a Target while traveling to buy some stuff for our trip. After buying stuff, we walked out and the door sensors went off because a clerk didn't remove a tag properly. We went back in and they told us to just walk out and that it was fine, since human cashiers already verified our purchase. I asked them to please locate the tag and remove it before we leave. The cashier said it was fine and not to worry about it. My concern was that, through some automated or AI system, we would be catalogued as thieves if we walked out and the 'AI' system thought the item was stolen. Target has one of the world's most advanced camera-based loss prevention systems and, as I understand it, it logs shoplifting silently for people it has identified (seemingly partly with 'AI') until those people exceed a felonious amount of theft. My understanding is that Target waits to intervene with police until this point, so as to pin stiffer charges on people. It makes sense. We ended up hunting for the tags on our own. I don't blame the cashier for handwaving it since she had literally just scanned our items, but we were both paranoid about the system erroneously flagging us for something we paid for. We searched for the tags ourselves instead and the door alarm didn't go off the next time. I had thought maybe I was operating on too high of a level of paranoia (as I often do out of safety), but just this morning, I read an article that people are having to prove themselves innocent after AI shoplifting detection systems are falsely flagging them and accusing them of theft after legitimately purchasing items. That's it. There's no big point or anything. I think it makes sense for stores to have loss prevention, but I'm worried about if no one ever reviews the "AI" version of that before it logs faces as thieves. In our case, we weren't accused of anything -- but I do wonder if that first exit alarm trip logged my face in some system somewhere. Probably.

@theo Happy to see you trying out Forgejo. As said earlier, you can selfhost and make it your own. Cheers x.com/valerionxv/sta…
Vlad@valerionxv

@theo If self-hosting is your cup of tea, maybe try Forgejo + Woodpecker to deploy bypassing Github. More things involved as with every self-hosted service, but may prove useful in the long run.

I am experiencing some bugs with the new update. Specifically: - working in a project in a thread sometimes kicks me out to a new thread and have to switch to the previous one - folder tree is missing. can't open through key shortcut and neither from view > Toggle folder tree. Nothing happens Codex app on Windows. And please drop the Windows Store for distribution, every other option is better.
Tibo@thsottiaux

Lots of improvements across the board both for coders and general work. Update your codex app to enjoy all the improvements. We will be back next week

@vxunderground it's worrisome that just today he realized that Audi (and others) put speakers on the exhaust. Been doing it at lease since 2012. Wait till he finds out that they are doing it with gasoline engines also

I want to rename /domain-model before I make a video about it. It's a drop-in replacement for /grill-me that's better when you're working with code The mental model is: /domain-model for code, /grill-me for non-code tasks What should I call it?

@spion @jhuffman42 @ThePrimeagen It is an issue and should be flagged for sure. Still, as a CEO I would never put myself in a situation when people who depend on my reasoning (clients and employees) are impacted by deciding to let a clanker run un-isolated. At least secure your backups...

There are a lot of people dunking on this guy and the arguments at the end of the day come down to "You are holding it wrong." But to be fair there has been nothing but a constant stream of "Stop holding it, Software Engineering is over shortly." I am not shocked that this has happened and I am 100% confident that this is not going to be the last one. The problem is the vogue nature of insane hype claims, most specifically from Dario himself being most guilty. People are lulled into a faux safety due to the belief that these LLMs are literal gods in their pocket. Infinite knowledge and speed for a simple monetary exchange. Cannot wait for ThePhilospher to explain how a loving God could delete a production database.

@ThePrimeagen Fully agree and this type of sales pitch, especially coming from Amodei should be called out. But isn't this a similar to when a token seller tells you to spend half your salary to get ahead? Snake oil for sure, and that is why I put the blame more on the victim in this case.

I think some people are misunderstanding me here. I am 100% confident that LLMs alone will get you a hot steaming pile of absolute shit and it has played out again and again. What irks me is that a bunch of normies were sold that this is PhD level intel and that they have 0 worries and this is the future old man, get with it. They go off, sell a product to REAL customers and then absolutely get wrecked. There will be a whole bunch of people that will continue to get wrecked because an entire class of people cheer them on and more so CEOs of the worlds largest companies tell them they are correct. I can imagine that we will see quite a few lawsuits in the coming months / years due to this.
