Adding this as an addendum for the people rightfully mentioning it's not a new criticism: x.com/valmaerion/sta…

@Jan60152074 No, that's fair and it wasn't the intention. I platinum'd the game back in 2020, so I skipped the initial discourse and had no idea the combat was so loathed. I still think it's fun for me, but I guess a lot of people disagree.

Twitter is now trying to convince us The Witcher 3 has bad combat.

@valmaerion Witcher is one of my favorite franchises ever, I've put in hundreds and hundreds of hours into 3. But lets not rewrite history. While I think the combat is good, this has been one of the main complaints about the game since it came out.

@Lutenshi Yeah, I'd agree with this take. I also don't consider the combat the selling point of the game, but I think it's from suitable to good at what it does. I'm amazed I somehow missed everyone fucking hating it lol.

I love the interpretation that the scythe was real because I like to imagine a very confused Zenos as his scythe disappears mid-combat (because what else would he be doing) only to reappear a few moments later. But yeah, it was done to drive home the comparison.
Kate!@KateacIysm

13 minute video to explain to complete illiterates that the scythe wasn't real and was merely conjured in order to make a point about our similarities to zenos. He's not coming back. you are all neanderthals.

@s0cialdeficit I found it just suitable in normal difficulty, and engaging in Death March because of the preparation aspect and having to actually use oils and the stuff. But straight up bad? That feels like an exaggeration.

@valmaerion its pretty boring, lets be honest. rolling is pretty clunky especially in environments with a lot of props, all your standard bandits can just be parry spammed and stronger boss enemies are typically just kinda boring or slow. its just not very engaging

I think the funniest part of the Eva crossover is that Xiv kinda already did the "kids are used to pilot mechs that are going to kill them" thing. Complete with the whole evil dad bit. And the goo.

@iihitocos Lo de la pronunciación nos pasa a nosotros también. Nos resulta relativamente fácil acostumbrarnos a las sílabas japonesas (Aprender a escribir con kanji es otro tema)

basically every form of anything has that problem, the simpsons is now written by people whose only background is in watching the simpsons, snl with snl, star wars with star wars, pop music with pop music

beyond "nobody reads anymore," this is because many modern filmmakers work off of a base of the filmmakers they were inspired by, whereas those people were building off of art, sociology, history, and yes, literature. Obviously isn't true across the board, but you know
