You have likely seen us fundraising for the 2025 Open Streets season. But obviously, having to do this every year is not ideal. To that end, this weekend we rallied with Open Streets organizers from around the city asking @NYCMayor to provide sustainable funding for Open Streets.

At @vanderbiltbk rallying to celebrate #OpenStreets &to ensure city adequately funds grassroots organizations that run them & that @nyc_dot get proper funding so open streets can flourish. Safer streets make our neighborhoods safer, build community and are a boon to business.

This year’s budget is very bare bones, representing the least we can spend to run the most days while still offering the programming on the Vanderbilt Open Street and Underhill Plaza we know street-goers love.

As we've been fundraising for the 2025 Open Streets season on Vanderbilt Ave, we have received a number of questions about what the program costs and why we need to fundraise. Hopefully this helps! 🧵

Around the city, Open Streets have been shrinking year after year, drawing from an ever smaller pool of resources. If we want programs like Vanderbilt to survive, @NYCMayor ad @NYCCouncil need to commit to funding them and using permanent infrastructure to pedestrianize streets.
