Don’t let a celebration end in tragedy. 🍻⚽️🚕 Ahead of Memorial Day and the FIFA World Cup, we’re partnering with NYPD to ramp up anti-DWI enforcement and encourage New Yorkers to assist a friend in getting home safe by taking transit, a cab, or choosing a designated driver.

The most scenic commutes are in bike lanes 🚴🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️ NYC DOT’s Bike to Work Day was a big hit, but really any day is a good day to bike to work. NYC’s many bike lanes give you a view of the city like you’ve never seen it.

1,000 World Cup tickets. $50 each. All for New Yorkers. We fought hard to make the people’s game available to the people — and won. Let the summer of soccer begin.

The bike lane that helped transform Sixth Avenue is getting even bigger. 🚴‍♂️🌎   Ahead of the World Cup, we’re widening the protected bike lane (14th St-31st St) from 6 feet to 10 feet to improve safety and create a calmer, more comfortable ride through Midtown.

As negotiations between the MTA and workers continue and LIRR service remains suspended, the City is preparing for travel disruptions going into the workweek and New Yorkers should too.    Here’s the latest:    • City Hall and City agencies continue to coordinate preparedness and contingency efforts to support New Yorkers and maintain travel continuity.     • @NYC_DOT and @NYPDnews are operating a Joint Traffic Management Center to monitor traffic conditions.     • @NYPDnews officers will be deployed along major roadways, on the street level and inside subway stations to ensure traffic is moving, prevent illegal parking and keep commuters safe.     • @nycemergencymgt staff will be deployed to key shuttle bus hubs and drop-off locations in Queens to support riders.    • @helloDCWP will conduct outreach to licensed parking garage operators to remind them that parking rates cannot be increased without the required 60-day notice.    Here’s how to prepare:    • New Yorkers should plan for heavier-than-usual traffic and additional travel time.     • The MTA will provide limited bus service on weekdays for essential workers and those who cannot telecommute.   • Stay up to date by signing up for @NotifyNYC by texting NOTIFYNYC to 692-692 or visiting nyc.gov/notify

We are continuing to closely monitor the ongoing contract negotiations involving the LIRR.

City Hall and agencies across the administration are actively coordinating preparedness and contingency efforts to help maintain continuity for commuters and support New Yorkers as conditions evolve.

New Yorkers should prepare for heavier-than-usual traffic, crowded transit options and additional travel time.

The MTA has announced that limited weekday bus service will be available for essential workers and others who cannot telecommute.

We encourage New Yorkers to stay informed, plan ahead and check for updates and travel guidance as more information becomes available.

🚨 Multiple Major Travel Advisories: Rail and roadway travel may be heavily disrupted today and this weekend. New Yorkers should allow extra travel time, check service status before leaving, and use alternate routes where possible. 1. Penn Station Rail Disruptions Transportation into and out of Penn Station remains heavily disrupted due to lingering impacts from an electrical fire in the East River Tunnel. Most Penn Station trains will be rerouted to/from Grand Central or Atlantic Terminal, or will start/end in Jamaica. There will be no westbound service to Penn Station. The reroutes will not be reflected in the MTA’s app. Please listen to announcements to confirm the track, destination, and stops of your train before boarding. NJ Transit Midtown Direct trains are being diverted to Hoboken. NJ Transit rail tickets and passes are being cross-honored on NJ Transit and private carrier buses, and on PATH at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken, and 33rd Street. Amtrak riders should expect delays as repairs and service adjustments continue. 2. George Washington Bridge Traffic Delays Motorists should expect continued traffic delays in both directions approaching the George Washington Bridge due to ongoing maintenance, inspections, and preventive work on the Trans Manhattan Expressway. Upper-level eastbound lanes of the Trans Manhattan Expressway will have roadwork continuing through late Saturday, May 16. Lower-level westbound lanes of the Trans Manhattan Expressway will have overnight roadwork from 10:00 PM today, Friday, May 15, until 8:00 AM tomorrow, Saturday, May 16. Expect extensive eastbound and westbound delays approaching the George Washington Bridge and on nearby local roadways. Allow additional travel time and use alternate routes where possible. 3. Potential LIRR Service Suspension New Yorkers should also prepare for possible LIRR service impacts tied to ongoing labor contract negotiations. If negotiations are not resolved, the wind-down of LIRR service could begin after midnight tonight and may affect riders leaving late evening events, including Mets vs. Yankees at Citi Field. Check service status before traveling, allow extra time, and consider alternate travel options. For the latest updates, follow @MTA, @LIRR, @NJTRANSIT, @AmtrakNECAlerts, and @PANYNJ. For LIRR service information, visit on.nyc.gov/4eHPWJ9.

Faster buses are coming to Lexington Avenue. 🚍   We’re redesigning bus lanes from 52nd to 60th Streets to improve commutes for 71,000 daily riders.   The project will upgrade the existing curbside bus lanes to an offset design, helping keep the bus lane clear of illegal parking.
