On January 23, 2006, #VPD Police Service Dog Nitro and his handler, Howard Rutter, were called to assist other officers who had spotted a stolen vehicle. The #VPD is improving safety for vulnerable seniors by providing free cell phones for emergency use. Funded by the @VanPoliceFnd, Vancouver seniors facing financial hardship can receive a basic phone that allows them to call 911 if they need help. Learn more: bit.ly/4sSO8Sb

What a busy day yesterday! We hosted another #basketball tournament, bringing together over 50 high school students for a safe and fun Friday night. Huge thanks to the amazing staff and youth volunteers at @HastingsCommCtr, and a special shoutout to @VanPoliceFnd for their continued support!

Last month, #VPD School Liaison Officers hosted the #IronBulldogs powerlifting competition at Eric Hamber Secondary, where students competed in front of a live audience to deliver new personal bests in back squats, bench press and deadlifts. Funded by the @VanPoliceFnd.

Last night, the #VPD hosted its 2SLGBTQIA+ Safety Workshop at the Renfrew Park Community Centre! The event was well attended and included a presentation along with a practical, hands-on learning portion that taught participants about situational awareness, de-escalation, and self-protection. Many special thanks to the Renfrew Park Community Centre, the VPD Women’s Personal Safety Team, and everyone who attended and participated!! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ @VancouverPD

Many thanks to the @VancouverPD Women's Personal Safety Team and @VPDDiversity for hosting a fantastic safety workshop for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. They covered so much material in 3 hours! For me, the biggest take-away was the vital importance of situational awareness.
