@sbzcomps @AnfieldSector No point in him taking full control when the whole point was that he doesn't wanna be a Sporting Director again. He'll need to have someone running the club on a daily basis.

@AnfieldSector Good, I don’t agree with the multi club model at all but it’s bad from FSG to promise something and not deliver on it I wouldn’t be against Edwards taking full control and getting rid of Hughes but sounds like they’re all off

Thoughts on Fenway Sports Group’s decision to shelve plans to buy another football club?
Anfield Sector@AnfieldSector

[🟢] SUMMARY | Inside FSG’s decision to shelve plans to buy another football club from the @TheAthleticFC: • When Michael Edwards returned to FSG as CEO of football, a key factor was their commitment to expanding into a multi-club model, which he believed was necessary to “remain competitive”. • Two years on, that project has stalled and is now effectively dormant, with the situation understood to have frustrated Edwards. • Edwards, Julian Ward and Pedro Marques travelled across Europe assessing opportunities and carrying out detailed groundwork. • Around 25 clubs were analysed, mainly in Spain, Portugal and France, but no proposal was approved by the FSG board. • Talks advanced on four occasions, with Bordeaux, Malaga, Getafe and Monaco all seriously considered. • Bordeaux was rejected due to financial issues and stadium complications, while Malaga proved too complex due to administration and legal disputes. • Getafe was explored after a reduced valuation, but concerns over revenue and La Liga restrictions ended interest. • FSG also considered a minority stake in Monaco, but uncertainty over UEFA multi-club ownership rules prevented progress. • A major concern was the risk of two clubs under the same ownership being unable to compete in the same European competition. • FSG were unwilling to pursue deals that would require them to reduce control or relinquish “decisive influence”. • The model was seen as important after Brexit limited the ability to sign overseas players under 18. • Although the groundwork is complete, there are no current plans to move forward with an acquisition. • This leaves uncertainty around Edwards’ long-term future, given the project was a key reason for his return. nytimes.com/athletic/71250…

@AnfieldSector @TheAthleticFC Europe is not the be all end all no? Why can't they focus on South America or even some team in the US. It's all about growing a team and providing it with a pool of talent.

@BelieveInKlopp Need to be a regular occurrence not just a one off. Finish the season strong the way Klopp did in 20/21 and his chances to stay will increase.

@fc_mossman @FPLfrasier Thiago at Liverpool isn't even remotely comparable to Hazard at real. Lots of injury issues but for that one season of 21/22 it clicked really well he was that good.

I understand your point about mixing experience with youth but politely I don’t think a couple examples should govern the narrative. More often than not buying aging players on big wages backfires… Bayern also signed a 30 year old Mane and 31 year old Palhinha that whiffed. Hazard to Real Madrid, Joao Cancelo to Barca, Varane to United, Pjanic to Barca, Thiago to Liverpool, the list goes on, as does the list of times it worked. The issues with the core concept of signing later prime players are that 1) if they fail, the investment cannot be recouped in any capacity (although with the Saudi league perhaps this isn’t the case as much any more) and 2) even if they succeed initially (which is more likely as they’re in their prime), towards the tail end of the contract is when it starts to become a hinderance. Take Salah for example… once the fall off happens, the wages x production becomes potentially debilitatingly skewed, and more senior players are harder to drop as they have reputations (again, Salah, Lewandowski, etc)

@TaintlessRed Yup Frimpong is the enabler. He's also a much better RB than people give him credit for, and is more suited to using his pace from deeper positions than being deployed high and wide as a RW.

@NOTLFCJ__ The idea imo is to have Isak, Ekitike, Salah and Gakpo as the 4 striker options rotating for the 2 positions. Wirtz in the left half space, then either Szobo + Frimpong RHS or a winger (Rio or Diomande) + Bradley RHS.

If we can add a world class winger in the summer I can get behind the system tonight if you bring in Isak and the winger for Salah and Ekitike

@IWLFC98 We've used it before but issues are mostly due to our RBs constantly getting injured & lack of striker options due to Isak's injury. You need Frimpong's pace out wide to provide width. Still should've used it more for sure.

@BasicallyIDoWrk Because the scope of the plot and the world-building is massive. It's been 1000 plus episodes and we still only know only vague stuff about the actual lore of the One Piece world. It's genuinely insane.

@pranav_m28 I actually do think he has some really good forward passes in his locker it's just that he has become extremely reliant on his carrying to progress the play plus he mostly scans sideways rather than get his head up to make that forward pass the way someone like Szobo does.

Ryan Gravenberch - Tempo Control Profile -Third among PL midfielders for carry injectors per 90 at 3.07 per 90. -You can see all his good and bad qualities on this map. -Elite first and second phase carrier, breaks lines using this. Fastens the tempo with his carrying really well in central areas. -Lack of vertical pass injections, especially in central areas. As you can see, most of the quick injections, even in advanced zones, are directed towards the flanks -I do think his profile has massive flaws but most of it is down to under-developed passing -Having predictable passing patterns (and flaws) as a central midfielder makes you easier to handle/counter in the long run as carrying can only solve a given set of problems

🔴Introducing Tempo Control Profiles We often talk about tempo when talking about football. We talk about players who SET the tempo, players who CONTROL it or players who RAISE it. So I decided to quantify it, visualise the actions and develop a classification system using data. It divides the players into three main categories: 1. Tempo Catalyst - players who speed up the tempo 2. Tempo Conductor - players who maintain the tempo and have a right balance of slowing it down as well as increasing it 3. Tempo Settler - players who recycle more often, like to inject less The framework has two main aspects: Injections and Resets. In simple terms, I look at the time gap between actions, compare the action to the recent rhythm of the sequence, and then judge whether it speeds the move up or slows it down. From there, I add territorial context as well, so quicker actions that also move the ball into more dangerous zones carry more value than quick actions with little tactical impact. Here is Bruno's Tempo Control Profile. He falls under the Tempo Catalyst profile. Not surprising given how good he is at releasing quick incisive passes. Decent number of tempo increasing carries as well. You can request for similar maps, specific lists and even drop suggestions and methods of improvement. I will share more results and try to improve this over the coming days.
