@arunp2810 Have landed there a couple of times. This is the most important requirement. The rest of development in GNI should be on a financially viable basis.

Nobody mentions this, but GNI has had a naval air station, INS Baaz since 2016, & a fine natural harbour exists, in Campbell Bay facing Malacca. For years A&N Command has pleaded for extending the runway & upgrading of harbour to host large aircraft & ships - to no avail.

You have hit the nail on the head.

A friend just sent me this delightful Extract from the book "Fools and Infantrymen" by Lt Gen Eric Alexander Vas, Col of the 9th Gorkha Rifles, and former Eastern Army Commander. There could be no more amusing statement of the best of India's religious pluralism -- and the diehard secularity of the Army. Over to General Vas: "When an army commander first visits the various states under his operational jurisdiction, it is customary to pay courtesy calls on the state's governor and chief minister. During my first visit to one of the north-eastern states, the Chief Minister held a public function and in his welcoming address said that the people should now feel safe as "the new army commander is a Christian". "In my reply, after expressing thanks for the welcome, I reminded the public that my predecessor was a Jew; what he had done for the state would be difficult for me to match. I told them that military commanders operate according to military tasks laid down by the government, and we are not influenced by individual considerations of language, religion, or caste.. In conclusion, I said, "I was born a human being, by tradition I'm a Hindu, by training I'm a Catholic, by temperament I'm a Muslim, morally I'm attracted to Buddhism, and every time I have to shave I wish I was a Sikh." Jai Hind!! 🇮🇳

The point, I think, should be- either NFU as a concept is valid for ALL or for none. This business of "large officer cadre", "financial viability", "defence budget"... arguments are all a pile of B..s..to deny one lot while the rest are "privileged". If NFU has all these issues, do away with it , for ALL govt officers. Govt cannot be parochial in this just because Gp A "select lot" are 'closest' advisors to the Govt. Do away with this blatant discrimination. We just seek equality and parity in status and process. #Administration #Leadership

NFU to Armed forces is not a privilege to be granted. It’s the obligation of the grateful nation to those who get superseded at young age not bcoz of their incompetence but bcoz of lesser vacancies in the higher ranks, unlike other services where literally everyone rises to the highest rank & also get Non Functional Upgrade (NFU). These young officers are the cutting edge during operations & continue to serve the nation inspite of zero career progression chances, earning gallantry awards, getting wounded or killed in action … it’s their commitment that has to be recognised and honoured. Let’s not fail our brave uniformed soldiers for a few pennies or some whimsical attitude. Our Armed forces are the best and they deserve the best 👍 Jai Hind 🇮🇳 @adgpi @IAF_MCC @indiannavy @DefenceMinIndia

And unlike most civil services, armed forces have no lateral avenues...
Ved Malik@Vedmalik1

@TinyDhillon The cadre structure of armed forces results in a very large number (compared to all other services) unable to get promotion due to very steep promot structure. Non grant of NFU to them is total injustice.

Chandigarh Citizens Foundation hosted short film 'Aunty Sudha and Aunty Radha', directed by Tanuja Chandra, produced by Anupama Mandloi, followed by their conversation with Rachna Singh & audience. A highly sensitive, thought provoking portrayal of ageing & old age. A must see.
