@AGretz And honestly they probably lost a lot of STH when they got rid of their value plans because they were a great deal. But being the geniuses that they are, they doubled the price of my seats after a 100 loss season so I said no thanks.

@AGretz Good point about the lack of supply of the secondary market due to a smaller STH base. I think 2 other factors exist. 1)The team doesn't let you sell more than 50% of your games, making people less likely to sell. 2)They got rid of the "value plans" that STH sold seats for cheap.

Talking baseball: Vol. 29. Pittsburgh as a baseball town, the cost of going to games, and the continued misunderstanding of the Statcast era. (free article and open to everybody). adamgretz.substack.com/p/talking-base…

@DeckTheCards @GWelsh3 They really fucked up when they got rid of the "value plans" for the whole season a couple seasons ago. Front row of 128 for $1600. They got rid of them and the prices jumped up to $3400. I told them to piss off.

@GWelsh3 Yeah I studied sport management and that was the one thing that always confused me a bit. Not the underselling, but the Pirates should almost be begging people to buy season tickets. Even if they have to lower the prices, season tickets are the backbone of early season attendance

312-319 should be like $15 and anything else upper deck should be $10 or $12. Make the games cheaper and attendance will improve. Even if you lose a little money.
1986-92 Pittsburgh Pirates@1992Pirates

If I want to go to tonight’s game on a Wednesday, against an inferior opponent, the cheapest ticket I can buy directly from the Pirates is 32 bucks plus 7 dollars in fees. If I check StubHub, the cheapest ticket I can get is 30 bucks (includes fees)

@MarkKaboly People care too much about being a "great sports town". Who cares? If the team is good, people go. If they stink, less people go. You don't keep going to the restaurant that serves you shitty food.

A lot of talk about this being an (insert a sport) town: Pittsburgh is a winning town. • In 2003, after the Steelers lost to the Bengals in Week 13 to fall to 4-8, their final two home games both had 12K no-shows. • Penguins were actually giving away tickets before Crosby • Pitt hoops was the hottest ticket in town when they were winning. Win and they will come.

You want to know why people aren’t going to Pirates games? They have absolutely no reason in the world for being the 6th most expensive ticket in baseball.

I'm not a fan of this at all. Thanksgiving Eve is one of the best party days of the year. It's also a travel day for many people as they go home to see their family. I love the NFL but it doesn't need to completely monopolize our lives plus with so many games Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, that Sunday after Thanksgiving isn't as good.

NFL schedule leak: The NFL will have a Thanksgiving Eve game, with the #Packers taking on the #Rams in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Nov. 25 on Netflix.

Winning team. Splendid spring night. Best ballpark in America. The great Paul Skenes on the mound. Tickets sold: 13,515. Actual people in stands: Somewhat less. Please don’t tell me Pittsburgh is a great baseball town. Or even a good one. It’s a mediocre baseball town. #Pirates.

@vergotd @MarkMaddenX Oh, I would agree, but not everyone wants to go to a night game, maybe with kids, when the temps by game-end are sub-60🤷‍♂️

@MarkMaddenX OK, once more, for the other dimwit in town: - 3 gms over .500…in May - 4th place in NL Central - vs worst team in MLB - sub-60 degree Tuesday nite…in May - preceding DECADE of inept, awful, non-playoff baseball Honest question, genius: do you read tweets before u hit ‘send’?

There’s cheaper tickets than that.
MorganaBrooke@FeldmanMo39299

@MarkMaddenX If they want a full ballpark they need to lower ticket prices for families! That’s it. People are not going to pay 40 per ticket for the worst seats when the park is half empty!

@NHLGM1 @DanZangrilli I think the Ballpark pass is a great deal. If I was 10 years younger I would have it. But it shouldn't cost me 2x that to go to one game with the family on a Tuesday night.

@vergotd @DanZangrilli The ballpark pass is $45 for a month of games. You can upgrade the seats for $8 to sit in 115 behind home plate. That comes out to $11-$12 per game per ticket.

@jswank80 @1992Pirates @DanZangrilli I see when you're coming from. All but maybe 3 concession stands in the 300 level were closed last night. And I'm not even asking for dirt cheap tickets. We can't even get $20 tickets for a team that's been ass 90% of my life.

@vergotd @1992Pirates @DanZangrilli Why sell 10/15 dollar tickets to fill up the ballpark when he can just leave the prices as is and tell half the Aramark employees and ushers they don’t have to come in that night? I went to so many games for less than 15 dollars for a long long time. Sucks.
