As reported in The Hindu, nearly 1 in 4 start-ups incubated under IIT Madras’ “100 Startups a Year” mission have women co-founders — highlighting the growing role of women in India’s deep-tech and innovation ecosystem. Dr Tamaswati Ghosh, CEO, IITM Incubation Cell (IITMIC), noted that women entrepreneurs have consistently represented over 25% of the incubated start-ups across sectors, including AI, biotech, sustainability, agritech, and healthtech. With strong ecosystem support, funding opportunities, and Startup Shatam initiatives, several ventures have already scaled through grants, angel investments, and venture capital support. As founders from across India continue to join the ecosystem, IIT Madras is strengthening its vision of building inclusive, impactful, and future-ready innovation. $2.6 trillion is spread across mfg (adv logic chips & packaging), components (HBM), upstream materials/tooling, and software monopoly (frontier models & enterprise stacks) — the lion’s share flows to TW, SK, JP & the US. India gets a sliver via AI services, legacy modernisation, data engg, GCCs.

Maharashtra signs MoUs for 25,400 MW of nuclear power at total investment of ₹6.5 lakh crore. (To put the ambition in perspective. India has spent 50+ years building 8,800 MW of nuclear capacity across 25 reactors. And Maharashtra wants to add 3x that in one go) MoUs signed with → Reliance Industries 7,200 MW (₹2 lakh crore) → Adani Power 6,000 MW (₹1.5 lakh crore) → NTPC 7,200 MW (₹1 lakh crore) → Lalitpur Power (Bajaj-backed) — 5,000 MW (₹2 lakh crore) The realistic timeline 2025–28 → Site selection, regulatory clearances, land acquisition 2028–30 → Construction begins (best case) 2033–34 → First commercial power (analysts' estimate, if approvals are expedited) 2040+ → Full 25 GW capacity — optimistically MoUs have mixed track record of translating to implementation , but if it delivers the state will get 200 billion units of electricity annually plus round-the-clock clean power to run its factories, data centres and digital economy Biggest challenge will be to overcome land and local resistance. Purnagad in Ratnagiri (where Bharat Small Reactors are proposed ) is the same coastal Maharashtra belt that killed the Jaitapur nuclear project for over a decade. Fisher communities and environmental groups are already mobilised. Also the potential technology risk in deploying Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) which are still commercially unproven at scale globally. The vision of Maharashtra is right. India cannot decarbonise its industrial base without nuclear. Maharashtra, as India's biggest economic engine, making this bet is the correct strategic call. via @businessline

India’s GCC boom is real: exports rose from $78bn in FY20 to $153bn in FY25, jobs from 2.5m to 3.9m. IT/ITES leads, but BFSI, ER&D, and retail are also growing fast.

India’s lithium imports have increased more than ten-fold over the past eight years, reaching ₹37,624.6 crore during April–February FY26, driven by rapid growth in electric vehicles (EVs), battery storage and electronics demand. EV penetration has risen to about 8.5%, boosting demand for lithium-ion batteries. However, domestic battery manufacturing and critical mineral processing capacity have not expanded at the same pace. Government initiatives, including PLI schemes and critical mineral programs, have seen slower implementation. Analysts warn that unless local refining, manufacturing and recycling ecosystems scale up quickly, India’s dependence on imported lithium and related supply chains will continue increasing.

Why UPSC aspirants should NOT miss this 🚨🚨 From fertilizer efficiency to rising night-time temperatures these topics directly connect agriculture, climate change, food security and sustainable development. Important for Prelims + GS-III Mains. ➤ The fertilizer article explains how excessive chemical fertilizer use is damaging soil health, groundwater and long-term agricultural productivity, highlighting the need for balanced nutrient management and sustainable farming practices. ➤ The climate article highlights a worrying trend where minimum temperatures are rising faster than maximum temperatures in India, increasing heat stress, affecting agriculture, public health and climate resilience.
