@ryanvogel The best known strategy - is quarantine private mirror - the only downside is cumbersome to setup and maintain - but absolutely must have for popular project - see @videolan - they compile GCC first and then VLC on air-gapped machine for the release

The @FFmpeg and @videolan podcast with @lexfridman has inspired me to write some assembly (again). It’s been a long time, where should I start? Does DVD-Audio decoding still need some help? (I have some DVD-Audio discs of @QueenWillRock that are in need of preserving)

VideoLAN has released a new open-source tool called dav2d.
It is a CPU-based decoder for AV2 video, AV2 is the next open video format after AV1 and promises better compression and higher quality.
dav2d is based on VideoLAN’s popular dav1d decoder for AV1, works on many platforms and focuses on being fast and correct.
The code is now public on VideoLAN’s GitLab site. This is an early project because the full AV2 standard is not finished yet.

If you do wonder why we don't update VLC on the Windows Store or why VLC/iOS can't connect properly to OneDrive shares, it's because Microsoft Kafkaïesque bureaucracy refuses to help us. We're only trying to contact someone since 2years... Any day now...

Last weekend, Hypernex (with @realtigerbl0xed and @virtual7802) attended a gaming convention, where we hosted a virtual theater experience, demonstrating our upcoming Android support and @videolan unity. We had an amazing time and got to talk to many people about our game!
